Towle, of Boston, entertained at a very pretty tea dance at the Country Club on Thursday in honor of Miss Ann Merrill, who is spending her Easter vacation from school with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William B. Merrill, at Cross Roads. The tables were prettily decorated with sweet peas and jonquils, and more than thirty of the younger set enjoyed the happy occasion; Sir Stanley Cochran, Messrs. Grantland Rice, Don M. Parker and T. C. Fogel comprised a party from the Mid-Pines Club for dinner at The Carolina on Sunday. Mrs. Oliver C. Hutchinson, of Detroit, gave a birthday dinner for Mr. Hutchinson at The Carolina on Tuesday. The guests were Mr. and Mrs. F. Earle Long, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Tuttle and Mrs. C. M. Butterfield. The weekly luncheon of the Kiwanis Club was held at the Country Club on Wednesday with about seventy-five members in attendance. The speakers were Messrs. P. B. O'Brien and Ralph W. Page, and a delightful musical program added to the enjoyment of the occasion. Mrs. Charles H. Pray, of New York, entertained three tables at a luncheon bridge at the Club on Monday. At The Carolina on Thursday, Mrs. II. F. Grayson, Mrs. W. H. Cluett and Mrs. A. W. Stanley were luncheon guests of Mrs'. J. D. Hathaway. o Miss Ann Merrill entertained at dinner and the movies on Friday evening for the Misses Barbara Presser and Louise Emery, and Messrs. James Tufts, "Chick" Farnsworth and John Rosencrantz. Among the riders on the picnic to Hunter's Grove last Thursday were the Misses Eleanor Cowan, Anna Fay Presser, Katherine C. Wing, Frances E. Stebbins, Ruth S. Cole ; Master Robert Schermer horn and Messrs. S. B. Chapin and F. J. Hague, Jr. Mrs. Warren Bicknell entertained at a most delightful tea-dance at the Club on Friday afternoon for her daughters, the Misses Frances and Betty Bicknell and about forty of their friends. Mr. and Mrs. Tracy H. Lewis, of New York, are visiting Mrs. Lewis' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Tufts. Friends of Captain A. Loftus Bryan will be delighted to know of his engagement to Miss Elizabeth Sophy Beylard, which was re cently announced at San Madeo, California, the home of Miss Bey lard. The wedding will take place this month, after which Captain Bryan and his bride expect to visit Pinehurst on their way to New York from which place they will sail for an extended European trip.
