Fifth Avenue, 37th and 38th Sts., New York Fort Bragg Defeats Pinehurst THE first game of the annual Spring polo tournament, which comprises a series of six games between teams of the Sand hill Polo Club and teams from Fort Bragg, was played on Monday last between the Sandhill Greens and Fort Bragg Reds and resulted in a victory for the visitors 13 goals to 2. W. F. Egan, captain of the British team which played so brilliantly here a few weeks ago, is still sojourning at Pinehurst and was in the line-up with the Greens, but despite his masterful playing at No. 4 position his team was unable to overcome the splendid team "work of the visitors and succeeded in scoring only two goals. It ir V V- 1. u.ul. mum The Reds started with an allotted handicap of two goals and increased this to three in the first chukka when Major Rhinehart picked the ball from a scrimmage near the goal posts and carried it safely through for a tally. He duplicated this feat in the second period, giving his team a four goal lead and put the Greens strictly on the defensive. Lieutenant Gross got in some fine drives in the third period for a tally and was robbed of another by one of the most sensational plays of the game when Captain Egan got in a lightning fast back-hand stroke and drove the ball to safety from what seemed to be a certain goal for his opponents. The Greens first tally came in the fourth when Major Duval made a neat play in a scrimmage and, lucky to get clear of inter ference, drove the ball some distance for a goal. Due largely to the fine work of Major Rhinehart and Lieutenant Gross and the. splendid all-round team work, the Reds piled up goals in each of the remaining periods and held their opponents scoreless save for a single tally in the seventh by Egan.
