Vol. XXVII December 15, 1923 Number 2 The Tin Whistles The rapidity with which Pinehurst is filling up this season is well illustrated by the large number of Tin Whistles taking part in the Club's golfing contests each week. Forty-four members took part in the Medal Play tournament on November 26, and on December 3 a Four-Ball vs. Par event brought out a field of fifty eight. The field in the first named event was divided into two classes and was led at the end of the day by Howard G. Phillips and A. S. Higgins, who scored individual rounds of 74 each. Phillips played with a handicap 1, while the handicapper was more generous with Higgins and allowed him 10. Phillips round of 36-39-75 was the best gross score of the day. John Stambaugh top ped his field in the higher handicap division and carried off the Class B prize with a net round of 91-26-65. W. T. Barr and J. L. Weller bettered the par figures in the Four-Ball event to the extent of 2 up and won the first prizes, while the second pair of prizes went to Rev. T. A. Cheatham and E. H. Wiswell, who finished 1 up. J. B. Eisaman and H. C. Fownes broke even, but the remainder of the field were unable to equal the given figures. The fields in the two events finished as follows : MEDAL PLAY Class A H. G. Phillips . .75- 1-74 Burton Preston .. 93- ,9-84 A. S. Higgins . . .84-10-74 G. W. Mead 91- 7-84 T. A.
