These include, in addition to golfing events, polo, shooting and races and a number of social functions. . The Harvard Polo Club has accepted the invitation of the Sand hill Club to play here and will come for a series of matches against the local team. The first game will be played on Friday, December 28, and another game will follow on Monday. The Harvard four are reported to be poloists of the first flight and the games against the Sandhill team should be very fast and interesting. For its Christmas Day races the Jockey Club has arranged an excellent card, including harness, running and steeplechase races, interspersed with novel specialties by amateurs, and a similar program has been arranged for New Year's Day. There is a large number of high class racers here now and the sport gives promise of being of the highest order. On Christmas night some forty-five members of the Yale Glee Club will appear in concert at the Carolina theatre. Pinehurst is fortunate in getting this famous organization of entertainers and their visit was made possible only by reason of the fact that they were planning a trip further south and the management succeeded in getting them to stop off here. This event will be of great social interest as well as a rare musical treat, as the entire body of students will attend the Christmas ball at the Carolina Hotel after the theatre. Pinehurst society will be well represented at the concert. Among the events that will occupy the attention of golfers during the week will be the much heralded match of Arthur Havers, British Open champion, and Jimmy Ockenden, holder of the French Open title, who will play against Alex Ross and Joe Capello. These famous foreign golfers are coming to the United .States for a series of matches that will take them all the way to the Pacific Coast, and will make their initial bow to an American gallery at Pinehurst. The event will very likely draw one of the largest galleries that ever followed a match here. A Father and Son tournament will be played on December 24th and 26th, and on the 27th and 28th a tournament exclusively for the youngsters will be held. Also on the 27th the annual Mid winter tournament will start and will continue through the 31st. The Tin Whistles ICHARD S. TUFTS, playing from scratch, led a field of fifty-one contestants divided into three classes in the Tin Whistles' tournament against Bogey on December 10, and won the Class A prize with a high score of 7 up on the Colonel's figures. His gross round of 37-38-75 was also the best gross score of the day. W. T. Barr finished second in the Class A division, at 6 up, while a tie, at 5 up, resulted for third place between Thomas Morrison, Rev. T. A. Cheatham and H. J. Blue. R. H. Hunt outdistanced the field in the next division and carried off the Class B prize with a score of 6 up, while a similar score was good enough for C. H. Lay to capture the prize in the higher handicap division. On December 15 the Club's annual Swatfest was held. This event is an elimination affair one or more players are retired at each successive hole, and the first bad hole usually spells disaster. This is often illustrated by the fact that some of the best golfers in the tournament are put out of the running at the very beginning. J. R.
