C. Volume XXXII April 5, 1929 Number 18 Poloislts Engage in rfHE third annual informal Round Robin polo tourna ment was off to a fine start last Thursday afternoon when a quartette of poloi|ts from the Sandhill Club defeated a team of visiting players by the score of 13 to 10 in one of the most interesting contests of the season. Verner Z. Reed and Harry Maxwell starred for the local squad, their skilful stops and long, accurate drives accounting for nine of their teammates’ tallies. J. H. P. Richards, who hung up three more goals, was also playing a bang-up game, his team play being particularly effective. Gould Shaw was playing most effectively for the visitors. The next game of the tournament will be played on Satur day, when the Winston-Salem team, winner of the Fall tourney, meets the visitors who were defeated by the Sand hills in the opening game. The Camel City team will give their opponents a three-goal handicap. A team from Camden, South Carolina, will play the Sandhill four next Tuesday, and it is anticipated that one of the most closely contested games of the entire season will be played, as the South Carolina team comes here with an impressive record of victories. The championship game is scheduled for next Thursday, when the two winners will play for prizes to be awarded by the Sandhill Polo Club.
