^^ELL-RcIJNDED CcMAiUNITy Adequate Public Utilities Provide for the Health and Comfort of Guests and Cottagers THE well-rounded resort commu nity, regardless of its seasonal aspect, today demands all the comforts and conveniences of permanent city life. Visitors to Pinehurst are impressed by the completeness of the local service. Arriving by train or motor from their northern or western destinations, they find, aside from the excellent sports facili ties, homes and hotels of a modern type, shops retailing the latest in fashions and the better-grade foodstuffs, public utili ties of a superior and adequate type, a theatre offering last minute cinema pro ductions, and beautiful chapels wherein the winter guests, both Caholic and Pro testant, may worship. Public utilities are adequate and afford the conveniences and safeguards which city life offers—fire protection, sewers, electricity, police on duty day and night, and a pure water supply, are a few of the features. Tested every month by two laboratories, the water supply is re ported to be so nearly absolutely pure that in freedom from mineral content only distilled water surpasses it, and in their experience no undistilled water has ever approached it. In iodine content it is abundantly sufficient and goiter is by no means prevalent in this section. One of the many attractive homes to be found within the Village limits, The Chimneys, owned by Mrs. Henry F. Noyes. (Hem mer Photo.) The pride of the Sandhills is the herd of Ayrshires at the dairy which furnish most of the milk used in the Village, and which is a source of great satisfaction to the cottagers and hotel guests. Generally regarded as a specialty, Ayrshire milk is for everyone in Pinehurst. The dairy is, of course, federally accredited, thereby insuring absolutely tuberculosis-free milk. The public schools are on the ac credited list of the Southern Association of Colleges and Universities, and a pri vate school of a superior type provides instruction for those who desire it. Upon the completion of the new Moore County Hospital, supplied with the latest equip ment and ably staffed, adequate facilities for emergencies will be at the command of the resort-goers. At present, physicians and trained nurses are available for those who desire and need medical aid. The library offers a wide range of reading. To provide the maximum of con venience and comfort for the hotel guest and cottager is the aim toward which all branches of the unit, Pinehurst, strives. A well-rounded community, willing and able to serve the normal desires of its clientele, it ranks as one of the leading vacation centers of the United States and Canada. PINEHURST, N. C. The Ideal Winter Community Those who know Pinehurst appreciate the fact that a good wine needs no bush. It is its own recommendation. Pinehurst does not depend for its popularity on what other communities may lack, but on what the Sandhills of North Carolina, along with the intelligent creation of money and energy, offer for the pleasure and comfort of the people who select this section for their winter homes o>r play grounds. Pinehurst has ideal climate, not much cold weather, hut not too much continued ener vating heat. Pinehurst has dry, sandy soil, very little fog or excess humidity, few severe storms, and with dry soil and little humidity it enjoys a high proportion of that sunshine that clear sky and open air carries liberally to the whole region. Pinehurst is an out-door community. That is probably its chief asset. This fact was recognised when the Federal government selected Fort Bragg s loca tion near Pinehurst for the biggest artillery range in the world. These Sandhills are the physi cally fit place for a big army post. And the government had all the United States to pick from! Nature did a great deal for Pinehurst—menhave done the rest. Close to the populous part of the nation, good hotels, good homes, fine neighbors, sports and enjoyments, all that makes life desirable. • That is Pinehurst and the Pinehurst community. The inhabitants welcome newcomers, and any real estate agent will help to find a loca tion in the Village or out, to suit any taste.
