Purvis WOODLAND - Funeral serv ices for Harvey Junius Purvis, 75, who died Tuesday, April 20, were conducted on Thursday, April 22, at Woodland Baptist Church by the Rev. A. H. Lanier and the Rev. Isaac Terrell. Burial wasintheFriendsCem- etery in Woodland. He is survived by his wife, Dalha Blanchard Purvis; two sons, Roger W. Purvis of Wood land and H. J. Purvis, Jr., of Ahoskiej five grandchildren and several,step-grandchildren; five nieces, Mrs. Grady Britton, Mrs. C. C. Sessoms, and Mrs. Cleary A. Vinson of Ahoskie, Mrs. Selma Quade of Hwesville, Md., and Mrs. Ruth Archer of Raleigh; one nephew, Dan Snipes of RFD, Ahoskie. Purvis served more than 25 years in Northampton County as a peace officer and had been county tax collector. Mrs. Mary Harrell Buried Friday RICH SQUARE - Mrs. MaryB. (Caddie) Harrell, 77, died Wed nesday in her home. She was the wife of Ezra T. Harrell and a daughter of Robert J. and Mrs. Sarah Brown Bryant. She was a member of Pinners Methodist Church. She owned and operated Rich Square Hotel 25 years until her retirement 16 years ago. Surviving, besides her hus band, are four daughters, Mrs. Josephine Traylor and Mrs. Ed na Brouillard of Rich Square, Mrs. Louise Shearin of Roanoke Rapids and Mrs. Frances Ange Gray of Enfield; a brother, Jar vis Bryant, and a sister, Mrs. Ellen B. Lane, both of Benson; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were con ducted Friday in Rich Square Methodist Church by the Rev. O. S. Williams and the Rev. Fred A. King. Burial was in Cedar Lawn Cemetery. Ashby G. Davis Dies In Florida died In Orlando Friday after noon. A native of Norfolk, he lived there before moving to Kissim mee 10 years ago. He was em ployed fay the Norfolk Post Of fice 30 years. At the time of his retirement he was superintend ent of mails. He was a veteran ofWorldWar II and a member of Shingle Creek Methodist Church, Kissimmee, National Association of Retired Civil Service employees, andCo- rinthian Masonic Lodge 266 and United Royal Arch Chapter of Norfolk. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Janie L. Davis; a stepson, Sam W. Lehew, of Rich Square; and an aunt, Mrs. Jesse Weed of Franklin, Va. Funeral services were heid Monday at 11 a.m. in Grissom Chapel by the Rev. George H. Fraley and the Rev. W. P. Hanks. Burial was in Osceola Memory Gardens, Kissimmee. Mrs. Geneva Bell Passes In S. C. LORIS, S. C. - Mrs. Geneva Johnson Bell, 39, died Friday. Funeral services were held Sun day at 2:30 p.m. at the First Bap tist Church, with the Rev. Lester Brown and the Rev. Robert Turn er, officiating. Surviving are her husband, H. Roger Bell; one son, Roger of the home; her mother, Mrs. Cecil Arnette of Conway; and her ma ternal grandmother, Mrs. Ina An derson of Conway. Mrs. H. 0. Futrell Dies In Conway CONWAY - Mrs. Hal lie H. Odum Futrell, 82, died Saturday at 9 a.m. in her home. A native of NorthamptonCoun- ty, she was a daughter of Ben jamin and Mrs. Laura Madrey Odum and the widow of William J. Futrell. She was a member of Potecasi Baptist Church. She is survived by two daugh ters, Mrs. Woodrow Davis and Mrs. Vernon Wade, and two sons, Randall Futrell and Vance Fu trell, all of Conway; 11 grand children and several great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Galatia Bap tist Church by the Rev. Harvey Coppedge and the Rev. Dalphon Thompson. Burial was inConway Cemetery. J. R. Newsome Dies In Franklin BRANCHVILLE, Va. - Joseph Randolph Newsome, Sr., 68, died Tuesday in a Franklin hospital. A native of NorthamptonCoun- ty, he was a son of James Lem uel and Mrs. Fannie Smith New- some. He was a member of Branchville Baptist Church. He was a farmer and a World War I veteran. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Julia Joyner NewsomeofBranch- ville; four daughters, Mrs. Anice Barnette of Richmond, Mrs. Hel en Vick of Capron, Mrs. Josie Gay of Seaboard, and Mrs. Erma Scott of Boykins; a son, Joseph R. Newsome, Jr., of Boykins; a brother, Walter A. Newsome of Potecasi; a stepson, Robert Wayne Pope; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. A funeral service will be held today (Thursday) at 3 p.m. in McDowell Funeral Home, Boy kins, by the Rev. Russell Wim- mer of Branchville Baptist Church. Burial will be in Beech- wood Cemetery. Baptist Revival Begins Sunday RICH SQUARE -TheRev.Har- old White of Raleigh will be guest pastor for next week’s re vival services at Rich Square Baptist Church. The services begin at the 11 a.m. service on Sunday, May 2, and continue each evening at 8 p.m. through Friday, May 7. The Rev.
