r GARLAND WALTON, of Union, is shown setting a milling ma chine. Me joined the company two years ago after working with the Modern Industrial Machine Company of High Point. He started training in machine work in Whiteville in 1956. He and his wife, Lillian, are members of the Ahoskie Free Will Baptist Church. MAKES TRAILER AND TRUCK BODIES—The Lucas Machine Works made the trailer body used by Elliott Vinson of Winton to haul his earth digging machinery. The company has made many custom rigs and also makes and repairs fuel and fluid tanks for hauling. MACK DUNLOW, of Ahoskie, is shown preparing to weld a dam aged shaft. After attending the Askewville School he worked for eight years at the Hayes Aircraft plant at Edenton, before coming to the Lucas Machine Works. He specializes in welding. His fami ly includes his wife, Patricia, and a son, Kim. who is 11. LARRY STEWART, of Lewiston, has worked at Lucas for a year and a half. He served four years in the apprentice school of the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company. He is single an^ lives with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Stewart. He does !ral machine work and is shown at a lathe. ROOM FOR EXPANSION—The new building of the Lucas Ma chine Works is a block with brick veneer construction that allows for future expansion in the 50 foot by 105 foot layout. The com pany has plans to add additional lathes and metal working ma chine tools as its growth permits. The picture shows the general machine room with the welding shop behind the block partition. (UPD—The average person in the United States utilizes about 475 pounds of paper per year, largest amount in the world, reports an analysis by papermaker Kimberly-Clark. Sweden is next higest, with 350 pounds per citizen; Canada and Norway check in with 300 pounds per person, but the paper rate crumples to about 40 pounds per person in Russia and less than one pound per resident of some African nations. Newspapers, magazines, writ ing and wrapping paper were among the items considered in the survey, along with the 4.5 million boxes of disposable tis sues (Kleenex) contributed to the over-all picture by its Wis consin inventor. ELECTROMCS GAiyS COLMAR, Pa. (UPD-Medi cal electronics is showing the biggest annual percentage in crease in the electronics field, according to Dr, Leon Riebman, president of American Elec tronics Laboratories, Inc., who predicted a growth rate of al most 40 per cent this year. Riebman said the entire elec tronics Industry would show substantial gains in 1965, esti mating sales of more than S17 billion, up from about S16.1 in 1964. By 1970, sales should ex ceed $20 billion, he said. rWO-TON HOIST — Tony Bryant and Earl Richardson use a hoist to lift the rear axle from a tractor for repair work. The hoist is mounted on a trolley frame that travels to any part of the plant work area. Tony Bryant (on the left) is from Askewville -and he worked for two and a half years in Edenton at welding and general repair work before coming to Lucas several months ago. His wife’s name is Evie and he has a nine months old girl, Donna. Earl was a ma chinist in Raleigh before joining the company about a year ago. He specializes in general re pair work and welding.
