BE SURE to see our final appeal—APPEAL TO THE GOOD CHRISTIAN MOTHERS. WIVES AND VIRGINS, in this same paper, next issue, August 12! "YOU CERTAINLY CAN!!!” NORTHAMPTON CHRISTIAN UNION Jesse Seaver, President CITIZENS OF CONWAY And Northampton County Under state law, you have a right to express yourself on the sub ject of the sale of alcoholic beverages. Yes, the VOTER has to decide! As the voter considers the question, persons with a personal in terest in the outcome will attempt to focus his attention on what may colled XHE WRONG QUESTIONS. The bait of greater tax revenue will be held before the voter, who has to consider his own tax problems. So often the voter fails to think about other aspects of the sale of alcoholic beverages. He fails to think about the EFFECTS of such sales on society. He fails to think about what these sales may do to his business, the members of his family, and to the weaker members of society. As the voter considers this issue, he should focus on THE RIGHT QUESTION . , . "What is best for the people?" Here is what we will see in the near future if we vote wet: I. More availoble liquor will mean more drinking in Conway ond the county! In every county in our state, when more outlets have been established more drinking has been the result. 2. More available liquor will mean more crime in Conway ond the county! Warden Lou Clapp of the Idaho Penilentiary made the state- met: "Ninety per cent of the men tell me they were drunk or had been drinking when they committed the offense that sent them up." A recent survey in the state ofWoshington showed that in sixty per cent of the crimes that resulted in imprisonment, alcohol was a foctor. 3. More available alcohol will mean more social pressure on our high school students! Most young people who begin drinking do so os a result of those who are already drinking. Will more available alcohol reduce this social pressure? You answer this question! More available alcohoi will mean more cost to the whole county, in cluding Conway! Alcohol triggers the temper and people get hurt. Police activity always must increase. TAXPAYERS will hove to pay the bills for the protection needed around alcohol outlets. We oil know that relief costs money. When a family becomes poverty-stricken through the use of alcohol, society comes to the rescue ond poys the bill. For every dollor received in toxes ... we will hove to poy out from three to ten dollars in taxes, depending on the amount of alcohol damage. "What is best for the people?" The responsibility is yours. The chol- lenge is great. When THE RIGHT QUESTION is before you, you will cast your vote NO... ON AUGUST 14 The Official Board, The Conway Methodist Church, Robert L.
