Joseph H. Draper, Sr, Girl Scouts Birthday Is PAGE S TIMES-NEWS. Rich Square, N. C.. Feb. IT, 1968 Honored On 90th Birthday Celebrated JOSEPH HIRAM DRAPER. SR. CONWAY - Joseph Hiram Dra per, Sr., was honored on his 90th birthday by his children, Mrs. Alvin Odom, of Rocky Mount. Mrs. Howard Barrett of Boy kins, Va., Mrs. Samuel Morgan of Miami Beach, Fla., andHiram Draper, Jr,, of Conway. Flowers were placed in church in his honor and the minister, the Rev. Robert L. Baldridge rec ognized Mr. Draper and hisfam- ily and relatives, who sat togeth er for the morning worship. A luncheon was given by the children and the occasion was climaxed by friends and relatives dropping in for coffee and birth day cake. Mr. Draper is a charter mem ber of Conway Methodist Church and was a member of the choir for 60 years. He was also a member of the quarter which was very much in demand throughout the country for their religious music. Mr. Draper, better known as Mr. Hymie, was a member ofthe Conway Band, organized in 1905 and played the bass horn. They displayed quite a bit of talent and were wholeheartedly supported by the home town folk who were quite proud of their boys. In those good old days the Conway Band was heard frequently at social functions and ball games in Northampton County and adjoin ing counties. In his lifetime Mr. Hymie has walked miles estimating land and lumber in order to help set tle estates. The good earth has always been one of his greatest loves and rarely a day passes that he isn’t seen walking about his farms with the aid of his walk ing cane. If the weather permits, he enjoys a day of fishing at least once a week. Mr. Draper has been a direc tor of the Conway Bank for 34 years. Still driving at 90, he at tends the weekly meetings reg ularly. Mr. Hymie is a firm believer that one should live a good clean, wholesome life, and live by the Golden Rule, "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them." ^a^ietown By MRS, INDU QUINN Mr. and Mrs. Esmond Elliott and son, Bradley, of Norfolk visited Miss Addle Elliott Satur day. Mrs. Ike Hedspeth of Chesa peake, Va., spent Sunday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Ty ler. Mr. and Mrs. Bennett Hughes and daughter, Mary Beth, and Jennie Bass of Jackson visited Mrs. M. A. Elliott Sunday night. Luther Britt of Hobbsville was a weekend guest of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Johnson, Mr, and Mrs. Robert Love- grove and children visited Mr. and Mrs, Herbert Vaughan and family In Woodville Sunday. CONWAY - The Conway Wom an’s Club met Wednesday night at the club buildlngwith the pres ident, Mrs. C.S.DeLoatche, pre siding. Mrs. William Johnson, chap lain, gave the devotional. Mrs. Jennings White, Jr., edu cation chairman, IntroducedMrs. Frank Spires, Girl Scout leader, and her troop who gave the pro gram. Parents of the scouts were guests. L. M. Beales Honored POTECASI - A reception was given in the educational building of Potecasl Baptist Church on Sunday, February 6, from 2 to 4 p.m. honoring Mr. and Mrs, Lee M. Beale on their 50th wedding anniversary. Guests were greeted by Mrs. Lottie Hoke and Mrs. VlolaMar- tin. Mrs. Helen Britt presided at the register. Presiding attheglft table were Mrs. Leora Smith and Mrs, Elma Warren, Mrs, Ran dolph Beale of Richmond poured punch. In the receiving line were Mr. and Mrs. Beale, Mrs. Gertie Beale of Potecasi, Mr. and Mrs. John Boone of Jackson, Mrs. Ar thur Clark of Smithfleld, Va., Mrs. Jim Woodard of Grifton, Randolph Beale of Richmond and Mrs. Edgar Wilson Martin of Milwaukee. CONWAY - Mrs. George De- loatch entertained at a dinner Sunday at one o’clock honoring her husband on his 75th birthday. The table was centered with a birthday cake. Guests included Mr. and Mrs, Brantley Deloatch and sons, Brant and Daryl of Durham, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Deloatch and children, Phil, Dennis and Paige, Mr. and Mrs. Norrlss Deloatch and daughter, Christie of Conway, Rook Long of Seaboard and Bail ey Deloatch of Severn. Miss Edwards Tells 4-H Of Proper Foods PENDLETON - The Roberts Chapel 4-H Club met in regular session Sunday afternoon with the president, Wayne Woodard, pre siding. Betty Anne Edwards gave a demonstration of the use of "Proper Foods. "She used color ful charts to explain her demon stration. Mrs. Clyde Jenkins, assistant home economics agent, was pres ent for the meeting. She explained new ideas In project books and new aspects of the 4-H program. Those present were Debbie, Becky and Joan Fisher, Sandra, Dan, Michael and Keith Edwards, Wayne and Betty Jo Woodard, Betty Anne, Bobby and Patsy Ed wards, Betty Jo Britton, Anna Beale and Gwen Burgess and the leader, E.
