Martin To Operate Hedspeth Implement CONWAY - Grady Martin an nounced on Wednesday that he has purchased the Hedspeth Truck and Implement Company from the Hedspeth family and is now the owner and operator of the Conway business. iThe business was founded by L. W, “Billy” Hedspeth and op erated for a quarter of a century until his death in 1960. Martin has been with the com pany for 14 years and has worked with the Hedspeth family in man aging the business since Billy’s death. The company is an Interna tional Harvester dealership in farm equipment, trucks and im plements. It maintains a complete repair and service shop for all of its products. Andrew Johnson will return to the company after an absence of some years to be shop foreman. Other employees are; secre tary, Mrs. Rachel Hedspeth; parts manager, Rodney Askew; sales and service, L. W. Flythe and Luther Daughtry; mechanics. Gene Daughtry, Robert Deloatch and James Deloatch. Bobby Lassiter, a student at NCHS, is a part time employee under a job training program. In assuming the operation of the company Martin said, “We are now in a position to offer better service to our customers and we invite all of our friends and customers to come and visit us during our sale or at any time.” On the pages of “Your Home Newspaper” the company is fea turing advertising offering spe cial bargains at their “Going In to Business Sale” which will be held with prizes and favors dur ing the coming week, Martin was reared in the CreeksvlUe area and is a grad uate of Conway High School. The librarian and her assistants can get very upset if students preslst in car rying off cards and books. If books with cards in them continue to repose in lockers, a screening committee will be set up at the door to remind the absent-mind ed. Parents can also assist by reminding students to return li brary books, especially those cont^ning library cards. * * * Mrs. Horne, wlio has supervis ed the construction of approxi mately 4,500 program booklets for home games in football and basketball this year, found her self ‘on the spot” the other night when her small son, Philip proud ly presented her a gift he had brought her from his night at the basketball games - you guessed it: a program booklet, Mr, Gibbs reports that Jerry Colson is showing marked im provement; however, he is still in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital but can travel about the halls In a wheel chair. Cards and letters from NCHS would cheer him up. The senior class recently elected two mascots, Charlie Fleetwood and Julia Hamilton. Charlie is in the hospital as a result of a recent accident. Best wishes for a speedy recovery are sent to Charlie by all 132 members of the Class of 1966. When June 5 and 6 roll around, they want him to be as good as new. * * * How do the men teachers get Crawley, and Mr. Ricks are the tlvities Club will sponsor the ones seen most frequently bat ting the ball around. The National Merit Scholar ship Test was given Saturday morning at 8:00 o’clock to any junior who was interested. This test provides a nation wide search for academically tal ented students. Winners receive national recognition and become eligible for scholarship help. * * * Miss Johnson picked the wind iest Sunday afternoon of the year to have the NCHS faculty to her house for coffee. Mr, Stokes did his good deed for the day by chasing one lady’s hat down the Main Street of Woodland. He caught it. Sue James, who has entered the Miss Ahoskie competition, will sing in the talent competi- Central Prison Variety Show on Friday night, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the Jackson Elementary School auditorium.
