A ?iv.jorjiv of the stock is now, through the co-operation oi these citizens, who have the well fit re of the town and county at heart, in the posession of the county board of education. It is understood by those making the stock and cash donations that the grounds shall be used as n public park and play ground, as well as for school pur poses. The construction of the building will begin between April 15 and Ma> lirst, and will be rushed to complet ion, in order that it may be ready in time lor opening session of the school in September. It is planned to use the high school,* which will accommodate more than 300- students, as the high school for all the Sylva school districts, includ ing Beta, lor Dillsboro, and perhap pnrt if not nil of Scott's Creek, ani: > to extend its usefulness as fast as the constm^jion of the gt&tfi hjghw;^ will permit the use of trucks to brin the students to the school, which wdi include Barker's Creek township, when the highway is linished thai fnr. ( ?; > ) Mr. Blair, director of school plan ninjr, of the state department o: public instruction, who was Iftre the first of the week, stated that the sih lor tlif school is the best adaptt 1 and most 'magnificent Ideation t\^? high' school purposes that ho has seen in the state, and that the peo ple of Sylva, and the surrounding country, that is to be included in the Consolidated High School District, are to he congratulated upon having secured the property for school pur poses. There is not' a high school in North Carolina that can begin' t compare with this for \ athletic grounds and school campus, and t' ? new building facing the Old Hickory Highway, will be one otf^ the at tractive show-places of North Kare lins. To say that the state depart ment is delighted over the selection of the site is to put it mildly, and the jtosession of such an unique, commodious and well-adapted locH^o.i has secured for the school more than usual interest from state and feder al authorities, and it is planned lo make the school conform so well tu state and I'nited States require ments that it will receive laige sums from the department and fronj the foundation funds, which arc expected l<> pay three- fourths of the salaries, of the teachers. , Not only will the prerrtit higii school topics be taught, but in the curriculum will be included practical and theoretical agriculture, home economics, and allied sciences, that will equiq the buys and girls of this; section of Jackson county to be lead ers in the field of practical and use ful things in the battle of life. The new building will cost approx imately $50,000, will bo constructed ot brick ai?d live-proof material, wili include, besides the class rooms, nn auditorium of seating capacity of MM), agriculturial, chemical, physical Jind other laboratories, an excellent reading room and splendid libarv. home economics departrant, cloak rooms, and in fact everything that will make it one <^t the best equipped hi^h sehools of the state, and will be built for permanence, and along the most nioderan lines, as accepted by the leading educational authorities of the country. The school-planning department is iiuch interested in the Sylva projcct and is lending its best efforts to the - aiming of the building, both for practical and esthetic reasons, mak ing the plans of the building con na to the surroundings, and with C rlnthian columns to conform to architecture of the court house n the hill just above.
