Bryson arc putting in a side track one mile west of Balsam station. This will be used for loading their acid wood and will be ready for use a bout October 1st. Balsam Springs Hotel closed one of its best seasons last Thursday. There were quite a number of guests at the close who were loath to leave our mountains just when the}' are prettiest, but not enough to justify the manager in keeping open longer, as the cost of running a large hotel is very great, especially with the present high cost of labor. Mr. Wells will return again next season. ? Mrs. It. M. Keller, of Cullowhec, spent several days in Balsam last week looking after her farm near here. Mr. Terrell, Principal of the Bal sam School attended the Teachers' meeting in Asheville Friday. Mrs. E. B. Howell and children spent Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Mary Robinson in .Willets. The following contused a party who camped on Old Baild Saturday night and returning Sunday: Mrs. Carrie Bell Sprinkle, Misses Hannah Warren, Evie Recce, Mrs. Recce, Mr. and Mrs. Elsie Ensley, Messrs.
