(2% Hatty ©ar Heel Chapel Hill's Film Scene - From 'Fish' to 'Flicker' If you’re a film buff, tonight’s your night as local and national filmmakers dis cuss their art and show some old and new projects. ■ “Go Fish” director Rose Trouche and writer/actress Guinevere Turner created a stir with their provacative lesbian comedy, and now they’re joining the Hanes Visiting Artist Lecture Series. The film will be shown today at 5 p.m at Carolina Theater on Columbia Street, next to Ackland Art Museum. Adiscussion and reception will follow in front of the Hanes Art Center Glass Gallery. For more information call Elin Slavick, the event’s organizer, at 962-0216. ■ The second installment of local film festival “Flicker” will be presented Thurs day at Local 506. The festivities will start a little earlier this time, about 8:30 p.m. Event organizer and local musician/ video director Norwood Cheek said this month’s crop includes more 16mm works than super-8. Expect showings from Tom Whiteside of Durham, Katri Snyder and Jamie Patton, as well as from the Wifflefist collective. Cheek said that some of the plans were still up in the air, but he hopes to recruit filmmakers visiting town (Trouche and Turner of “Go Fish,” and John Schultz of Guinevere Turner gets advice from Director Rose Trouche on Fish' set. They told a funny story from their younger high school days, adding in details and laughing back and forth: Lathren set the scene; Bums told the means of transportation (a friend’s mom’s “borrowed” car); Lathren added the details of the beverages of choice that night; Bums threw in more details (a shot gun and a dog attack) and then Lathren 31 That's how many visits you’ll have to make to our restaurant to try out all of our sandwiches. He said awareness tables at the concert venues will distribute flyers and other in formation. “We also wanted to get the message across. It is a big problem ... people still aren’t protecting themselves, they’re feel ing invulnerable,” he said. Genadio encouraged concertgoers to arrive early at the the shows: “We’re really grateful to the bands who have agreed to open and we don’t want people to miss them.” “Sometimes the sacrifice of the bands gets skipped over, they’re trying to make a living out of it... they can’t play the same club within a month, so this is a big sacri fice. But they were all up for it, it was pretty incredible.” Genadio said all proceeds will go to the following AIDS service organizations: AIDS Service Agency of Orange, AIDS Service Agency for Wake, and AIDS Ser vice Project of Durham. Genadio said the money would be used for different pur poses, but he said, “since this is for AIDS awareness, it will probably be more educa tion outreach.” Cover charges are suggestions and greater donations will be accepted. wrapped it up. And throughout it all, they continued laughing, as you would expect two old buddies to do. But their friendship and the band’s long term future is a little up in the air: both will graduate in May and Bums plans to move to Key West by next fall. Bums still was confident: “Our paths will cross again and I’m sure we’ll always hang out and jam out a little, have a good time.” Bud&EbAs BarandGrillJ] AY* Timberlyne Shopping Center, Weaver Dairy Road Chapel Hill >942-6624 DIVERSIONS Music THURSDAY, NOV. 3 CRASH WORSHIP, BEATLESS and AV GEEKS.
