According to a warrant, Roberts dropped his .45-caliber handgun Sunday in front of a Gasland USA. The gun fired after hitting the ground, and a bullet struck Roberts in the foot. Roberts now feces charges including attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a weapon of mass destruertion. Police said the handgun had been altered to fire .410 shotgun shells. Authorities also said Roberts owned the gun illegally because of a 2002 felony cocaine possession conviction in Chautauqua County, New York. NOTED. The Belarus border patrol said it stopped an attempt to smuggle 277 parrots into the country on a bicycle. Spokesman Alexander Tishchenko said the smuggler abandoned his bicycle and six cages when confronted, fleeing back to Ukraine. The cages were fixed to an ordinary bicycle. The incident, at 1105 N.C. 54 bypass, was reported at 12:33 p.m. Wednesday, according to reports. An IBM Think Pad notebook computer, an iPod and a Sony DVD/VHS player were among the items stolen, reports state. ■ An iPod, a toiletry bag and a pouch were reported stolen from a 1997 black Volvo 960 at 9:24 p.m. Wednesday, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Someone removed the items by iEhr Saiiy (Ear Hrrl opening an unlocked car door. The Volvo was parked at 108 Cameron Ave., reports state. ■ Police recovered a stolen vehicle at 104 New Stateside Drive at 3:29 pm. Wednesday, according to Chapel Hill police reports. The vehicle was a 1988 red Toyota Camry, according to reports. ■ Someone entered a residence at 146 Lake Ellen Drive at 11:52 a.m. Wednesday by prying open the back door, according to Chapel Hill police reports.
