Actress Ashley Judd, infamous in Chapel Hill
for her devotion to the Kentucky Wildcats,
will sit in the UNC student section during
today’s men’s basketball game.
While campaigning for Barack Obama last month,
Judd promised students she would return to UNC for
the game if North Carolina went blue Election Day.
“We are not here to talk about what divides us but
what unites us,” Judd said at the Oct. 30 rally.
NOTED. So this guy walked
into a bar with an alligator...
But it wasn’t a joke.
In Huntington Beach, Calif.,
a man dragged his 3-foot pet
alligator into a bar on a leash.
By the time animal control
officers arrived, the gator was
in the man’s vehicle. He had
another at home. Alligators are
not legal in California, and the
case is pending investigation.
■ A Chapel Hill man was
arrested twice Saturday, according
to Chapel Hill police reports.
Maurice Jerome McPherson, 24,
of 751 Trinity Court, was charged
with drunk and disruptive behavior
at 7:42 p.m. after police responded
to a disturbance in which he was
challenging others to fight while
intoxicated, reports state.
He was released on written prom
ise to appear in court, reports state.
McPherson was arrested again
on Pritchard Avenue at 9:25
p.m. for misdemeanor charges of
assault on a female, communicat
ing threats and damage to personal
property, reports state.
For those charges, McPherson
was transported to Orange County
Jail in lieu of $l,OOO bond, reports
state. He is scheduled to appear in
court Dec. 22 for all four charges.
■ -A U.S. Marine was arrested
early Sunday for pushing a woman
to the ground, according to Chapel
Hill police reports.
Patrick Ryan Connaghn, 22, of
Harrisburg, Pa., was charged with
assault on a female at 3:38 a.m.,
reports state.

has amassed a ball of twine
about as tall as he is.
He started it on April 3,
1979-
He weighs the twine as
he adds it, and he estimates
the ball weighs just less than
20,000 pounds,
The man has easy access to
twine material he’s worked
at a dump for 30 years.

He was transported to Orange
County Jail in lieu of $3OO bail,
reports state. Connaghn is expect
ed in court Feb. 16.
■ Two purses were stolen from
Top of the Hill on Saturday night
and early Sunday morning, accord
ing to Chapel Hill police reports.
In total, $763 was stolen. Some
of the items and one of the purses
were recovered, reports state.
■ Someone pretended to sell
an iPhone, then punched and
kicked a victim in the head at
a gas station on Weaver Dairy
Road, according to Chapel Hill
police reports.
The person then took a wallet
with $179 in cash, wht;h was later
recovered, reports state.
■ A UNC student was arrest
ed outside his home Saturday
for misdemeanor charges of
impaired driving and a hit and
run, according to Chapel Hill
police reports.
Shane Rust Mulligan, 21, of
500 Umstead Drive, is expected to
appear in court Feb. 17.
