Frost, of the same city, is delivering the response to Mayor Starr's address of welcome. The celebration will wind up tonight with a great ball. James went into the country several weeks ajjolo work and look his wife with him. She became i!l of typhoid fever and when at the point of death sent James to the city to bring her sister. James cauie here, got drunk, was sent to the hospital, and did not get out till his wife had been four days buried. The report got out that be had e!oped with another woman aud when he got back to where he worked he was set upon by a mob and with difficulty .escaped. ! June 8 Between 7 and 8 o'clock last even ine a storm equal to a cloudburst broke loose here. Pigeon Creek arose with tremendous rapidity and force, and swept away the great bridge of t,he Pittsburg, Virginia and Charles ton road, crossing the creek there One of t he piers of the bridge which crosses the Monongahela river here ! was washed a way and the bridge is left in a dangerous condition. Masses of wreckage are observed passing here from Pigeon creek, including dis- mantled bains and sheds.
