A Good Idea. The following resolution was pasted at the recent session of the Press As elation : " Resolred, that It shall be the da w f uh member of this Associa tion, when he shall have discovert any advertising fraud, to inform tv postal the secretary who shall f rtU with inform by letter all the nn-uil.fr" of the Association, so that each mem ber uiy be supplied with a list of such frauds. It shall be the duty of the secretary to make a report of all such frauds at each annual weetiotf for the guidance of the inembeie of the Association." A Model Koad. ! We believe the first train ovr the ' Baleigh and Gaston Railroad arrived In this city some time in 1810, or there about, and it can be truly said that there have been fewer accidens on it than any road in the United State, for the same length of time We do not leP'embtr who was the tt'-st president, but w e do know that for a iittle while our trieud, Mhj Vass h-Id that position. This was in the early forties, when the Major was hnrdly out of his teens. This must have been so, because he is hardly out of his prime now. .The array of presi dents has embraced so-ne of our most excellent men, such as Geo W. Mor decai, L. O'B. Branch, Gaston H. Wilder, Dr W. J Hawkins and others whom we do not call to mind. The oldest official we know of is Mr. Albert Johnson, who for a number of years filled the place of Master Mechanic and afterwards Superintendent. Tor a long time the road was in a dels pi -dated condition, but now it is one of the best in the United States. The management is excellent in all re spects. Maj. Vpsb is still treasurer and loves to talk o! old times, when he says his father used to roll a hogs head of tobacco from Granville to Petersburg, Va , and come back with sugar and coffee enough to do the family a whole year. Of course the Major does not remember this, but lie heard his father talk about it A Skating Kink. It would seem to be a little prruia ture at this t'nie, when the mercury is mounting up in the nineties, to tnlR about a skating rink, but we have al ways held to the idea of takitg time by the forelock The summer is fast wearing away, and the winter will be upon us, to use a common expression, before we know it. In view of this it has been suggested as a good idea t afford innocent amusement for our young people, and such okl ones at choose to indulge, would be the es tablishment of a skating rick at Brookside Park. We, of course, are not as familiar with the matter as to suggest the way in which the idea is to be carried out, but we are told b) the knowing ones that whether the weather is cold enough or not, thf lake at Brookt ide can be satisfactorily frozen over to answer the purpose. We modestly thre out the hint to our friend, Manager Buff, and hop he will put bis mind to work on th subject. It will be a source of much benefit to the public, and we hope t the electric railway also. The Basin ess Meeting. After a most harmonious ession. at which much Important business was transacted, the meeting at More head has adjourned to meet again lu Jtouary next The following Eie r'i?e Committee his been chosen : V. I have known for a week that it was coming, but kept it to my self unMJ today, when it has reached a crisis, and I cannot keep it any lon ger. Tou must not censure too harsh ly, for you must reap the results as well as myself. I do hope it won't crush you " By this time the cold perspiration snod on his forehead with the feai of some terrible calamity.
