1 Robberies I h tee mi that moet of the eltlei and towns in lb state are the eeenesof almost nightly outrages. In oar vi cinity there hve, of Ute, been petty robberlee, bat we are glad to ay that they hare not reached any degree of magnitude. It may be well enough, however, for oar people to keep on a harp lookout. A few nlghta since, a gentleman residing 2n the vicinity of the Agricultural and Mechanical College, was roused at night by a nolae In the yard. Jumping op be elied a ahot gan and fired in the di rectlon of hia poultry hoaae, when the thieves took to their hee'e mak ing directly for the Hlllsboro road. These fellowa know that the aubarba present a fine field, because they think It Is without the aeope of the police Bach being th case, we must advise persons bo annoyed to prepare themselves with cold lead to rec iv aucb unwelcome visitors Alluding to these depredations, the New Beine Journal sajs: It seems that several North Caro lina towna are now infested by or ganlzed banda of house breakers - Riuglary, which is a crime punish able with death, has become so com mon that almost any day a repetition of this flagrant crime can be noted Raleigh, Burlington, Durham and Greensboro are all suffering frxui the depredations, and it has been but a few weeks since one of he burglars committed a murder in Burlington Some of the robberies are commit ted with striking daring and it is re markable that so few are caught. The systematic burglarizing has been coiner on for some time in Durham, but up to Monday the burglars sue eensfallv evvted everv 'Sort of the Dolice to catch up with them, but there are now three suspicious ne srroes in jail there, who were taken while heavily armed with pistols, ra zorsand brass knacks, and a hunt is being made for another negro named Henry Rogers who is known to have been concerned in some of the rob beries. One baa also been sent up in Wiuinerton to await the action of the criminal court. Address Quite a large and appreciative audi ence assembled last night at the Ag rlcultural and Mechanical College to hear an address from Prof D H. Hill. The subject selected was "Analysis of Humor." and it was treated in a humorous manner. We are pleased to note that these lectures are grow ing in interest and are well attended. An hour or so could not be spent to more advantage. I0 OTHER Sarsaparilla posses- s ses the Combination, rroporuuu find Process which makes HOOD'S Sarsaparilla Peculiar to Itself. The foot ball team of the Agricul tnral and Mechanical College will go into training next M or day. The many friends ot Senator Vance will be deliehted to learn of the im provement in his health The Athletic Association of the Ag ricnltnral and Mechanical College is in a flourishing condition All sorts of political rumors, but, as we are "not in it" we cannot vouch for anything.
