THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY. SENATE. February 14, 1893. The senate was called to order at 1C:30 o'clock by Lieut. GoTernoi Dooghton. Prayer by Rev. Mr. Barker of Brooklyn church. Reading of joarnaU dispensed with. The following bills were Introdue ad lo Incorporate the fJolumbia, Charlotte and Winston Railroad. The following bills passed: To allow the town of Edenton to build a market house passed 8d read log To allow Richmond county to sell thoir poor house and issue bonds passed 3d reading. To incorporate Pendleton in North ampton county, passed 8d reading To incorporate the town of Bos tick in Rutherford county, passed 2d reading. To incorporate the Roaring Gap resort company in Alleghany county passed 31 reading The bill for an appropriation of $40,000 annually to the Deaf and Dumb Asylum at Morganton was made the special order for next Tues day nifht. To incorporate the Mt. Pleasant Manufactoring Co., passed 3d reading To allow the governor to appoint judges to hold courts in caoe of sick nees passed its 3d reading. HOUSE. Speaker Overman called the House to order and Rev. Mr. Rowe prayed. The chief billB introduced were as follows: To abolish the office of county superintendent and county board of education To incorporate the Exchange Bank of Winston. To incorporate the Charlotte, Troy and 8anford railway. To give the mayor of Raleigh con current power with magistrates and allow police officers to serve warrants. To provide for working on the pub lie roads of prisoners sentenced by magistrates. To reduce the fees of register of deeds for recording lien bonds from 80 to 50 cents. To declare the diplomas of the Pea body Normal School equal to a state certificate for teachers. To require the listing of all solvent credits for taxation. To incorporate the Durham and Charlotte railway. To allow the authorities of any county, city or town who have failed to list property to enter all property so omitted. The bill to amend the homestead was taken up and discussed ably for two hours by Messrs. Kitchen, Wat-. son of Forsyth and Harris. It was put to a vote and failed to pass, ayes 38. noes 77' Bills were tabled to abolish the hoirestead, and to reduce it to $500 A Bold Lady.
