Death of MaJ. John Derereux. It la with deep regret that we are called npon to announce the death of thU gentleman which occurred at his residence In the northwestern nburbs of the city this afternoon be tween IS and 1 o'clock. Major DeTereox had been, for some time, in declining health, which, of late, has given his family aud friends the greatest apprehensions and pre pared them to look for the worst. He was a eon of the late Thomas P. Devereox, who in his day was widely known turiughout North Ca olina, avn.'of the most prosperous and wealth! ml farmers. He owned large " Roanoke possessions" and usually made his residence at the old home Btead in Raleigh, which was the seat of old time hospitality. Mr. Dever eox has lived most of hU life In Rl eich and was a gentleman liked for his amiable and generous qualities ol ' head and heart. He was kind, liberal and an interesting companion wure his feelings were enlisted with conge' nial friends. As far as we have been J alle to learn he was about 73 years of age, and leaves a widow and eight children six daughters, four of whom are married and two sons to mourn their loss. With them we deeply sympathize Head This. Nobody can now doubt thai the spring has opened ic earnest, and, all who have not prepared themseves with clothing suitable for the season should be looking around to do so. In order to test the matter of price, quality and style, a most cordial in vitation is issued to call at the estab lishment of the Rosenthal Clothing Co., where Buch an array of clothing of every conceivable description, is shown, as has never before been pre seated to the people of Raleigh. The spring and summer stock has been selected with the utmost care, And with a view of meeting the wants of all classes. No better time than now to make selections Mayor's Court. This morning Mayor Badger had before him Lynn Stewart, a colored man charged with the infamous crl ma of incest which is alleged to have been perpetrated upon his own daughter aged about 14. The crime was charged to have been in August 1892, and Pgain attempted a few days since. The main evidence was the girl Geneva. Mr. Ryan appeared as counsel for the defendant-. After the examination Stewart was sent to jail to await the action of the grand jury at the next term of the criminal court. Telegraph Changes. Mr J B WHfcins, f Union, S C, takes the place of Mr Bellamy. Mr Burch has gone to Richmond. Va, and we hear that Mr Bellamy will shortly leav for one of the northern or western cities. In the meeting of the Board of Al dermen last Friday night Alderman Pogue raised the question of opening West Morgan street, but the result was as usual no action.
