HURRYGRAPHS.
The weather continues murky,
A boarder for the Republican Ho
tel at Ralegh, left this place yester-
flay morning.
The postmaster at Grassy Creek,
Mitchell county, stole $2,400 from
^us office and fled.
The fencing around the Herndon
mansion is being’repaired.
What has become of our Culpeper
friends? We would like to hear from
them occasionally.
A bell team was in town yesterday
evening, and afforded considerable
amusement to the urchins.
A large lot of N. C. Bacon, Hams
and Sides just received at
[201w] Williams & Bryan’s.
A lady friend informs us that a
conceited young man cannot make
friends with the young ladies. If
that is so the majority of young men
are in a pitiable condition.
The Superior Court in Davidson
county rendered a judgment of $200
against the Register of Deeds for
issuring a marriage license to a couple
where the girl was under age.
We saw a colored gent swallow
twenty grains ipecac yesterday, and
soon afterwards complained because
it did not have the desired effect.
We advised him to repeat the dose.
He took our advice ard was quite
busy the last we saw of hirn.
Mr. G. C. Hampton, of Flat River,
Orange county, sold at Pace Broth
ers Warehouse, Danville, Va., on
last Friday a lot of tobacco which
brought ^300 per 100 cwt. That
will do pretty well, “Cog.” We must
not forget to state that Mr. Harnp-
ton is a single man, and has about
7,000 lt)s of the same sort in his
barn.
AVe are one month old to-day and
hive not bursted yet as the Radicals
prophisied and hoped. Yes, we ha\e
lived a month, and during that time
we have thrown shell into their ranks
with telling effect, and at the proper
time will open with grape and canis-
ister. We mean business, so look
out for us.

ONLY A LITTLE CHILD.
TO may’s I’ARENTS.
Only a little child,
Pfiuse not here to weep;
Scarcely on e.irth she siaiiled
Ere she fell asleep.
Only a little child,
God to us had given ;
Pure and undefiled.
Only fit for Heaven,
Only a little child.
That our love possessed,
That our cares beguiled,
That is now at rest.
Only a little child.
Such as Jesus blessed—
We were unreconciled,
Only He thought best.

Died—In Norfolk, Va.,on Sunday
May the 7th, Cora, third daughter of
Ann and the late C, W. Grandy.
The illness of this ycung lady for
the last two weeks caused anxious in
quiry among her many friends in this
])lace, and the announcement of her
death by Monday’s mail excited
great sympathy for her family. Full
of joyous hope her sister left us a few
days, ago to attend her marriage, lit
tle dreaming that the bridal robes
were to be changed for the coffin
and the shroud. Our tenderest
sympathies are extended to her, and
may the recollections of the lovely
Christian character of her sister be a
balm to her wounded heart, as she
looks to the source from which the
only true consolation is derived, is
the wish of many of her Oxford
friends.
Off Foil Raleigh.—Mr. T. B.
Kingsbury, editor of 7'orchlight, has
left for Raleigh, and expects to be
absent three or four weeks. Plis en
gagement has nothing to do with the
newspapers.
