Salisbury as a Tobacco Manufac turing Centre. We have, now, in our town; four tobacco factories, that manufactur ed together, this year, over '400,000 pounds of tobacco. Our ware houses handle from ten to twenty times that, amount, consequently we have room here for at least 30 more factories who can draw on oar warehouses for their raw: material. We have plenty "of vacant lots at very reasonable prices suitable for the factory "buildings. In addition to plug tobacco, we be lieve that we have here - the exact place and conveniences for smoking tobacco, cigarette, snuft and cigar factories. There are so many palpable reasons for having a good school in our midst and a crying, Bhame that we have not one I It is desir able to fit a boy for the -Freshman class at home; besides tho expense of board, washing, etc j there is a questionable expediency of sending youths ftway-from home at so tender an age. If you could kindly approxi mate the number who would patro nize a home school, which you could do by a request to parents, then, with some positive assurtince, we might select some competent men, say Mr. Murdoch, Dr. Rum ple or any other trusted man of the community, to select a : first-rate teacher, a graduate' from some of onr colleges, then "we could rent a house that wquld do for a beginning, which is all we can hope for so late in the Reason, taking care that this beginning shall grow up as so de serving an enterprise must. I think, you willfind that the number interested will include professional men, merchants and workmen, as well as "many i- mothers." Pray make some practical suggestion that will keep the ball Tolling. The Graded School is well enough for yOnnger boys, but their duty is done - "when studions boys reach tnirtecn. J Give the boys a chanoel - I'rvOGKESS. We fully aree with our corres pondent in regard to a classic school for boys, one of the things that we necessarily need ; there are fifty boys in our. town between the ages of 12-and 18 that ought to. at tend such a school. We place Hhe figure low when we say? that 30 would attend if we bad the school. If taken in hand by practical men, such as onr orrespoiident suggests, we have no doubt of its practicabil ity and speedy realization. We wonld be glad if parents would, un til a proper committee is formed, leave at our ofiiee their names, so as to have a beginning in this work. -'- Vl;---' - "f - -' .good ?t;: MARRIED. - ;-" i.
