FARMERS COLUMN. Quiet a kicking cow simply .by putting a strap in her month and bUCKUDguiigDiiy uemna ner corns. Three thinks that are seen in a peacock the garb of an angel, the walk of a thief, and the voice ol tee devil. : Marketing the -produce is half the battle. A farmer should use aa much judgment on this point as any other. ' Poll the collars away , from the shoulders while resting thchorses in the field, so that the air can pass freely between them. ,A noor farm tool iin noses a tax . - . upon the user every day it is em ployed, often greater in the year than the whole price of a good tool. It is not a mistaken plan to give the boy 8 a calf or a pig each to raise. It teaches them at an early asre to take an interest in farm stock; . Plant a sunflower seed instead of a pole to each hill of beans; The sturdy stalk answers for a pole and the seeds supply an excellent leea for poultry.' A grindstone conveniently placed ready for use leaves no excuse for working with a dull ax or otner cutting instrument that, never does good work. ' Curing Tchaero on and - The Stalk. oar The delicate fine flavor of the on ion is said to be the best when first pulled, and while it still has a green neck. When fully ripened ii looses this fine flavor. - "WHICH 13 THE FROI-EH METHOD? SoatlMTBTotsaoco sorts!. Recent experiments made by a North Carolina gentleman in curing! looacco botn on and on tee suik seem to prove that the latter is the proper method. It is held that the great bulk of nicotine in a tobacco plant lies inihe stalk, that in the old process of curing this nicotine is driven to the leaf and hence be comes an injury to it. The gentle roan referred to above states that by stripping the leaves as they ripen ana cunng them oil the stalk al most entirely relieves the tobacco of all nicotine and as a consequence improves its quality to a considera ble degree, if this can be substan tiated as a fact it will greatly revo lutionize the tobacco business with reference to curing. A great many planters bold that a leaf of tobacco broken from the stalk before it is j cured becomes lifeless and almost ; worthless. This ground is -demonstrate to be false by examining a lot of tobacoo cured after being stripped. We have in our office a small sample of smoking tobacco manufactured from leaf stripped! the field and afterwards cored. It ha3 the pleasant aroma of fine smok ing tobacco, does not affect the nerves and doe? not leave a biting, unpleasant taste after - smoking as is often the case with mostmoking tobacco. Whether these qualities arise from being cured after broken from the stalk we don't know, but it seems most likely that this is the reason. Thorough experiments will be made this summer to test this matter and if there it- anything in the cla:m for non-nicotine tobacco, it will soon get its quota of credit. 14US KGS. . ; f -Yi rr -, 1 t a fc;BJy VO, , li lr,t uK-a itir u Hat Of 5 ih it o-vt Jrr ir t&o mt, , An 1 otJy 1 f: tl . t V f -- JK" Lira !Lnws lt trta mf a lol Ai1 tl -tb Kb hmm Cxt Bvt t itht fWl brss rnu.l"ia i .tXx la Tt Cofr.C Mwap Ready.
