To the man who has to work tor his living; to the man wno thinks it would be so much more pleasant to live at his ease in a pnalanstery than to work eight or ten hours a day; to the man of talent and action and industry, whose future is invested in that tranquility and order of State in winch talent ana action ana inausiry aic a . certain capital; why, the great banners haa better encourage a I theory to upset the system of banking! Whatever disturbs I society, yea, even by a causeless panic, much more by an actual struggle, falls first upon I the market of labor and then I a fleets prejudicially every de- I partment of intelligence. In I such times, the arts are arrested, literature is neglected, people are too busy to read any- j thing save appeals to their pas- I sions. And capital, shaken in its sense of security, no longer I ventures boldly through the J land, calling forth all the energies of toil and enterprise, and extending to every workman his I ^ reward. ? HELP THE LIBRARY Numerous responses to the invitation to become a member of the Warren County Memorial Library association are being received through the mails. Yet the goal is far away. The library performs a growing service in this country. It is an institution of merit, one which has proved its value through the type of its literature and general use by citizens of all sections. It is wise to place the annual appeal for funds I upon a membership basis. Invest something now for this purpose. WHERE DO WE PARK? The board of town commissioners will meet next Tuesday evening, and we I hope that they will make some change in the parking law of the town." We believe that parking on one side at an angle would be much better. Then allow drivers to stop for a few minutes, straight with the curb, on the other side. SUGGESTS REFERENDUM Editor, The Warren Record, Sir: ?How about the Board of Commissioners asking the Board of Elections to ascertain the will of the, people in regard to the county road system? As things now stand we lose the board of prisoners as well as court costs. At present there are six able-bodied men in jail being boarded at the expense of the taxpayers of the county. Court cost on these men will ruh from $30 to $60 each, if the Board of Elections will have ballots printed, "For" and "Against", a unit system, we can find out the will of the majority and govern ourselves accordingly. It certainly can not be any harm to know what the folks want. JOHN L. SKINNER. Littleton, N. C. Oct. 30, 1929. TO THE KIWANIS CLUB Editor, The Warren Record, Sir: We wonder if you have a niche for the following from The Presbyterian Standard. The writer has no desire that the Kiwanians should be exclusively a religious order; but this has so much that is in accord with Kiwanian dope that we would like to dedicate it to them. E. A.
