Time Extended
Tor Comments
Untied Tobacco
The U. S. Department of
Agriculture has announced that
the time for submitting views
and comments on a proposed
change in price support regu
lations on untied flue-cured to
bacco has been extended from
April 23 to May 15.
USDA announced on March
27 that consideration is being
given to changes which would
make price supports available
on untied, tobacco on a limit
ed and experimental basis dur
ing the first sale days on all
South Carolina markets and
the Border Belt markets in
North Carolina.
During that time, supports
would be available only on
lugs, including primings and
nondescript grades thereof.
Thereafter, price support will
be available on all tobacco, in
cluding lugs and primings, but
only in tied form.
Price support grade loan
fates for tobacco offered in
untied form would be less than
the rates for the same grades
offered in tied form. During
1961 season, the differential
betweenf grades of flue-cured
"tobacco marketed untied in
marketed tied elsewhere was
$6.00 per hundredweight.
USDA invited the views and
comments of tobacco produc
ers, warehousemen, manufactur
ers, dealers and other interest
ed persons relative to the pro
posed change. In order to af
ford all interested persons ad
ditional time to submit views
and comments, the final date
for submission has been ex
tended to May 15.
Views and comments should
be submitted in writing and
should be reviewed by Murray
Thompson, Director, Price Di
vision, Agricultural Stabiliza
tion and Conservation Service,
U. S. Department of Agricul
ture, Washington 25, D. C., no
later than May 15, 1962.

Motor Vehicles
Department Lists
Distress Measures
The Motor Vehicles Depart
ment has released a list of
standard distress measures to
be used by motorists on the
Interstate highway system.
Adopted by the American
Association of State Highway
Officials (AASHO) the tips
will help insure safety and
prompt assistance for motor
ists who encounter trouble.
The measures are as fol
lows:
1. In an emergency on free
ways, drivers should stop their
cars on the right hand should
er, whenever possible, wetl
away from the through traffic
lanes.
2. At night the tail lights
and the interior lights of the
stopped vehicle should be on.
If the vehicle is equipped with
an emergency switch controll
ing the signal lights they should
be turned on so that both right
and left signals flash simul
taneously.
3. If a car is stopped in all
or part of the traffic lane, port
able warning devices should
be placed to the rear of the
stopped car to warn other
traffic.
4. When help is needed, a
white cloth or handkerchief j
can be displayed from the stop
ped vehicle so that it can read
ily be seen. (Note: Most com-j
monly a handkerchief is tied |
to the left door handle.) In ad
dition the hood of the car j
should be raised.
3. Stay in the car while wait-|
ing for help.
6. After observing a distress
signal, passing motorists should |
notify the nearest police, high
way or automotive service of
ficial at the first convenient
opportunity, giving the loca
tion of the motorist in need of
help.

Cheese Rabbit A Real Treat
m* j
}*v. "
? ?>
?' IT " ?''
The cheese rabbit holds a distinctive position as a meal in itself,
although it originally came to being in a different way. It is said
that it first became known as a "rabbit" when unexpected guests
dropped in on a hunter while he was cooking game he had bagged
that day. To stretch the short meat supply, he added a concoction
of melted cheese and told his guests that they were being served
."Welsh Rabbit." Some however, prefer to call it a "rarebit."
Call it what you will, but for best results follow this Borden
Kitchen recipe accurately. Serve immediately over golden-brown
toast points. To round out the menu, serve baked red-ripe toma
toes stuffed with canned mushrooms.
Dinner Special Rabbit
(Makes six Vi-cup servings)
Vi cup hot water Dash cayenne pepper
3 (8-02.) bars Natural Dash Tabasco sauce
Cheddar Cheese 1 egg, well beaten ,
1 teaspoon dry mustard
Butter the inside of double boiler top. Pour in hot water. Add
shredded cheese. Place over hot, not boiling, water. Cook,
stirring vigorously with a wooden spoon in one direction until
the cheese is melted. This is important for best results. Blend
in seasonings. Continue to stir while very gradually adding the
beaten egg. Quickly pour into chafing dish which has been
warming over gently bubbling hot water. To serve, spoon over
golden-brown toast points. Rabbit is at its best when served
immediately after cooking.
HOTS: If desired, a large cast iron skillet may be used instead
of the double boiler. In this case, prepare the rabbit according
to directions, placing skillet over low heat.
