Willie Norwood of Areola and his comrade, Jack Arm strong of Norfolk, Va., are seriously considering the idea of recording folk music. This is recorded in the article from the Norfolk paper, which fol lows: MURFREESBORO, N. C. Two young musicians are hop ing to make it big in the country and folk music world without long hair, goatees or protest songs. Jack Arml stead, 21, of Norfolk and Willie Norwood, 19, of Warrenton, both Chowan College sopho mores are planning, "if things develop," to go to Nashville this month for their first pro fessional recording session. They hope to follow the foot steps of the Everly Brothers, whose songs are a cross be tween country and pop music. Armistead wrote most of the songs which he and Norwood sing and play, including "To the City," which they have taped and sent to Tree Pub lishing Co., at Nashville for consideration. 'We should hear something In the next week," saidArml stead hopefully. They said they are not In terested In protest songs, which have inspired the careers of many folk singers, but "we just love the Everly Brothers and like to sing their type of music." Both expressed a liking for all kinds of music but said they sing country music because they do that best. The are roommates at the Murfreesboro junior college. Other students said that Ar mi stead's and Norwood's room is "like a small coffee house when they start playing." They started playing and singing together in the fall but both said they had wanted to take steps toward becoming professionals for some time. "I just couldn't do it alone," said Armlstead. Parents were somewhat of a problem for both- "They finally came around after a while," Norwood said. "They tell me to keep It down every once in a while when I'm home so they can hear television" said Arml stead, "but they ask me to play sometimes."
