Both Games At Davie

ets, who lost both games to
visiting Murtreesboro last
Friday night, sprang back Into
the winning column at William
R, Davie Tuesday night when
they took both games of a
double-header.
The girls took a 46 to 11
win over William R. Davie
in the opening game and the
boys took a 51 to 41 win in the
nightcap. On last Friday night
the Murtreesboro girls, with
live seniors, downed Warren
ton by the score oi 33 to 29,
and the boys were downed by
the visitors 57 to 49,
In the game at Davie, con
stantly improving Gayle Serls,
playing her first basketball
this season, netted 26 points
to lead her team to an easy
victory. Others scoring were
Sandra Wood 6, Charlotte
Wood 1, Hawkins 8, Short 2,
Loyd 2, and Hobgood 1.
Jenkins led tha Davie girls I
with 4 points. Others playing
were Allen 1, Smith 2, Clay
poole 2, Carlisle 2, and
Waters.
The John Graham girls
netted 20 points in the first
half while holding Davie to 3
points. In the third quarter
John Graham netted 6 points
while holding Davie to 3, and
ran away with the game in the
final period as they scored 20
points to Davie's 5.
Boys Game - .?
The John Graham boys did
not have quite as easy victory
as did the girls, but they took
a first quarter lead, 10 to 8,
and held it all the way. At
the end of the third quarter
John Graham held a 37 to 21
point lead, but in the final
quarter Davie cut this lead by
six points as they scored 20
points to John Graham's 14.
Robert Rivers was high
scorer for John Graham with
15 points. Others scoring
were Ellington 12, Shear in 4,
Schnurr 2, White 2, J. Rivers
2, Fleming 2, Edmonds 9, and
Daniel 2.
Barnes led Davie with 14
points, followed by Walker
with 13. Others playing were
Garner 4, Bryant 5, Hales 2,

MURFREESBORO
The Warrenton girls played
Murfreesboro on even terms
until the third quarter when
the visitors netted 10 points
to the local's 6, to take a five
point lead, which the Jackets
cut by one in the final frame.
John Graham actually outshot
the visitors from the floor,
but failed to match the ex
cellent shooting from the foul
line by the Murfreesboro
girls.

Wood with 9 and Martha Haw
kins with 7. Others scoring
were Charlotte Wood 2, and

points to the visitors 13.

contain a 10 x 12 foot office
space and will serve as head
quarters for Warren County
service personnel.
David F. Proctor, who has
been employed by the Coop
erative since August, 1958,
has been transferred from
Enfield to Warrenton where
he makes his home. He re
places R, E. Eller who re
signed after 17 years service
with the cooperative to go into
the flower business In Norllna.
Proctor is assisted In his
service work by Donald E.
Lemleux who joined the coop
erative's work force in 1964.
The new warehouse and
office building is centrally lo
cated within the cooperative's
Warren County service area,
Thomas B. Slade, III, manager
of the HEMC, pointed out yes
terday.
Slade said that the construc
tion of this new facility is in
keeping with Halifax Electric
Membership Corporation's
continuing effort to provide the
citizens of Warren County and
all others in its service area
with the most efficient service
possible.
PAYS TAXES
Howard T. Pitts, local man
ager for Carolina Telephone,
one of the county's larger tax
payers, last week presented a
check for $8,817 to the War
ren County tax coUector.
The check was in payment
Df 1966 ad valorem taxes on
the company's properties
within the county. In addition,
checks covering municipal ad
valorem taxes will be deliver
ed this week.
The company's total comity
and municipal tax bill
throughout eastern North Car
olina amounted to $1,400,000.
Norlma Splits Games
With Weldon
And Littleton
Norllna split a double
header with Weldon on the
Norllna court Tuesday night,
the Norllna girls winning 42
to 30, and the boys losing 49
to 55.
This was the second split
contest In a row lor the Nor
llna Blue Waves who played at
Littleton last Friday night.
The Norllna girls won 30 to
27, and the Norllna boys lost
by the score of 60 to 63.
In the game at Littleton the
Norllna girls took a 9 to 4
point lead In the first quarter
but Littleton had reduced this
lead to 3 points, 18 to 15 at the
end of the half. Norllna again
surged forward with 9 points In
the third quarter to Littleton's
2, which held In spite of a rally
by Littleton who netted 10
