Tournament Provides Many Upsets, Close Games
The 1967 Roanoke Con
ference Basketball Tourna
ment ended on Saturday night
with the Norllna Boys and the
Aurellan Springs girls the
conference champions.
The tournament has been
described as one of the most
successful tournaments ever
held in the conference with a
gate of $2900 for the six
nights of play with hundreds of
spectators, unable to find
seals, lining the walls.
The behavior of the crowd
was so noteworthy that the
referees remarked that they
were the best behaved basket
ball crowds they had ever wit
nessed, and all games were
marked with the finest kind of
sportsmanship.
The tourney provided prob
ably more upsets, more close
games, more last second wins
than any In history, Rex Gor
don, principal of the Norlina
High School, said yesterday.
There were at least nine up
sets, with only one conference
top-ranked team reaching the
finals. Fans will be talking
about this tournament for a
long time.
