Klmpson has been receiving treatment at Warren General Hospital for the past ten days. Mrs. R. C. Watson is spend ing this week in Jacksonville, Fla., with Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Abbott and family. Mr. and Mrs. Rex Gordon and family have moved to the Waikins residence on Di vision Street. Mr. and Mrs. John Clarke spent the weekend with their daughter, Mrs. Braxton Bar rett and Mr. Barrett, at Greensboro. Mr. and Mrs. William Hicks and children and Mr. and Mrs. Irving Hayes and daughter spent last week at Nags Head. Mr. and Mrs. John Richard Paschall and Miss Phyllis Seaman joined the group for the weekend. Mrs. L. C. Davis and Miss Hazel Paschall were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. I. M. Brides-Elect Feted At Coca-Cola Party Miss Frances Spain and Miss Ginger Hicks, brides elect, were honored at a Coke party on Saturday in the home of Mrs. Eugene Wilson with Mrs. Wilson Fleming as a joint hostess. Mixed summer flowers were used to decorate the home. Upon arrival, corsages of white carnations with minia ture Coke bottles were pre sented the brides-elect. Missionary Society Holds General Meet The general meeting of the Woman's Missionary Society meeting was held at the Nor lina Baptist Church on Mon day night with 13 members present. Mrs. Alice Stultz, chairman, presided and led the meditation. It was announced that the Associational Leadership Conference will be held at the Norlina Baptist Church on Sept. 12 from 8 to 9:30 p. m. The chairman appointed Mrs. D. R. Moore, Mrs. Wal lace Stailings, Mrs. J. F. Bob bitt and Mrs. John Cawthorne as members of the nominating committee. The missionary program, "Christian Missions in the Tide of Nationalism: Zambia and Maliwa," was under the direction of the Olga Hood Cir cle. Taking parts on the pro gram were Mesdames H. E. Bobbitt, Earl Stegall, J. A. Overbv and J. T. Cawthorne. The Margaret Mitchell Cir cle had the largest number of members present. ? Miss Newsome And Mr. Barker Wed Miss Melba Jean Newsom, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Newsom of Wise, and Char les Hunter Barker, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Barker of Norlina, were united in marri age on August 11 in the Wes ley Memorial Church in War renton. The Rev. Leonard T. Wil son performed the double ring ceremony which was at tended by only the immediate families of the couple. The bride and groom are both 1967 graduates of the Norlina High School. The bride is employed by Rose'sof War renton and the groom is em ployed by Henderson Grocery Company of Henderson. After a short wedding trip the couple will make their home in Wise. Families Camp For Week At Kerr Lake Mrs. E. L. Meador of Nor lina and Mrs. F. A. Lamm of Durham entertained their sis ters and sisters-ln - law and their families at Kimball Point on Kerr Lake for a week re cently. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Turner and daughter, Donna, of Liz ton, Ind., Mrs. Bettie Steven son of Collinsville, Va., Mrs. Margaret Stevenson of Wel don, and Mrs. R. B. Williams and daughter, Richie, of Portsmouth, Va. The remaining members of the families joined the group for a picnic and fellowship together with approximately 70 persons attending the pic nic under the camporee shel ter. They were from Colllns ville, Va., Newport News, Va., Chesapeake, Va., Halifax, N. C., Durham, Warrenton, Route 1, Glenn Burnie, Md., Norlina and Hillsboro. The 19 guests were served Cokes, party sandwiches, chicken salad shells, brown ies and crispy dainties. Color ful bottle stoppers, tied with ribbon were placed on each plate as party favors. NIGHT AT THE BALCONY CLUB THE MADISONS 8:00 TILL . 12:0 Members Discuss Trip At Drewry 4-H Meet The Drewry Community 4-H Club met on Monday night with Randy Curtis presiding in the absence of the presi dent. Dawn Curtis and Paula Fleming led the group in the pledges, and Nancy Mitchell gave the devotional. After the roll call and min utes of the last meeting, each member recounted three things they saw on their re cent tour to Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown. Some of these were: Crossing James River on the ferry; seeing a movie on the history of Jamestown, visiting the glass blowing pa vilion and the museum; seeing a movie at Williamsburg, "The Story of A Patriot." In Williamsburg we saw the capitol, Governor's Palace, Raleigh Tavern, the Spinning and Weaving House and sil versmith making spoons. In Yorktown we saw a movie "The History of Yorktown." We visited the museum and in, the historic battleground and the Moore House where representatives of General Washington and Cornwallls met to arrange terms of the British surrender. History stepped out of the class room and came to life for these 4-H'ers who toured these historic places. Mrs. C. B. Curtis, Jr., gave a most Interesting pro gram on "Sewing and Sowing Gadgets" to the girls. C. B. Curtis, Jr., gave a program on "Motors and How They Work" to the boys. Norlina Boy Plays In All-Stars Game Northern All-Stars defeated Southern All-Stars 19-14 in the Boys Home Bowl football game played at East Carolina University Stadium in Green ville last Saturday night. The All-Star game was sponsored by the North Carolina Jay cees for the benefit of the Boys Home at Lake Wacca maw. Among the st ar s of the North All-Stars was Sterling Quick, a 190-lb. guard from Norlina. Quick was a star per former last fall for the Nor lina High School. Ronnie P. King Is Awarded Scholarship RALEIGH-Ronnie P. King, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerston D, King, Rt 1, Warrenton, has been awarded the N. C. So ciety of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers Scholarship for study at North Carolina State University. King will be a junior dur ing the next school term. He is majoring in agricultural economics. The farm managers and rural appraisers organiza tion each year presents its scholarship to an upperclass man who has exhibited leader ship and character, explained Dr. E. W. ARMY, VIETNAM - Army Specialist Four Robert J. Richardson, 25, son of Lloyd Richardson, Route 3, War renton, N. C., is participating in "Operation Pershing' in Vietnam. He and other members of the 1st Air Cavalry Division have evacuated morethanl9, 000 refuges from coastal areas to numerous refugee centers in secured areas as well as inflicting heavy dam age on the Viet Cong. During the search and clear operation, the men have been engaged f i flagging the VC from their vast network of tun nels and bunkers. They had been driven underground by constant U.
