Agriculturally Speaking
Students Are Invited
To Attend Open House

Extension Chairman
Warren County high school
students, especially juniors and
seniors, are being invited to attend
the annual Open House
program, Saturday, October 10,
at North Carolina State University
in Raleigh.
The Open Ho&se is sponsored
by the University's School of
Agriculture and Life Sciences
and School of Forest Resources.
Open House is held for career
minded high scliool students,
their parents, teachers and
career advisors. Also invited
are other adults who are interested
in finding out more
about the statewide activities
of N. C. State through
its research and extension
programs.
Special exhibits will be open
to the public beginning at 11:30
a. m. in Reynolds Coliseum.
They will show the many
phases of agriculture, life
sciences, and forestry available
to students atN.C. State.
Faculty members and students
will be on hand to discuss
career opportunities, curriculums,
admission requirements
and campus life activities.
The exhibits will remain open
until 3 p. m. Time will also be
provided (or visitors to tour
various departments of the two
schools. A dutch lunch will be
provided by thr State Poultry
Science Club.
The day's program will end
with the State vs. East Carolina
football game Saturday night at
7:30 p. m. in Carter Stadium.
Tickets for the game will be
available at a reduced price
for Open House visitors.
National 4-H Week
Is Set For Oct. 4-10
North Carolina's 75,000 4-H
members and their adult leaders
will Join forces Oct. 4-10
with some four million youth in
50 states and Puerto Rico tocelebrate
National 4-H Week.
The theme of the special observance
is "We Care", according
to Dr. Chester Black,
state 4-H leader at North Carolina
State University.
"The theme indicates that
4-H members are concerned
about the problems of their
community and country, and that
they are involved in helping
combat poverty, malnutrition
and the pollution of our environment,"
Dr. Black said.

School has begun again and
everyone at Warren Academy
has finally gotten back Into the
swing of things. Mr. Fleming
announces that there are 232
students enrolled at Warren
Academy for the 1970-71 school
year. A ninth grade has been
added this year apd a room has
been built to accomodate th>_
seventh grade.

The state 4-H leader said
each Tar Heel county is planning
activities during National
4-H Week to:
—Report the year's accomplishments
toward the betterment
of their communities.
—Consider futuce needs and
plans for next year.
—Encourage more youth,
ages 9 to 19, to take advantage
of 4-H opportunities.
—Urge more men and women
to volunteer as 4-H leaders.
—Recognize important contributions
of parents to 4-H
and influence their continued
cooperation.
—Acknowledge the support of
4-H friends and express appreciation
to them.
The 4-H program is part of
the national educational system
of the Cooperative Extension
Service. Tar Heel 4-H members
receive training through programs
conducted by N. C. State
University and the N. C. Agricultural
Extension Service

words to their Math vocabulary.
The third grade in Mrs.
Fleming's room have plunged
into their studies and are looking
forward to a good school
year. They have decorated the
hall outside their room with
pictures of various species of

says that her pupils are

and that a promising year lies
ahead.
Mrs. Brown's fifth grade has
elected class officers. They are
studying many things, but as
science has become a favorite
subject, they have acquired a
fish aquarium to aid them in
their studies.
The sixth grade has decorated
their room with colorful pictures
and have drawn a time
line. At the present time they
are studying the M lddle G ast and
Mrs. King asked them to listen
to news reports to bring in any
extra information for discussion.
The students in Mrs. Hundley's
seventh grade are very
excited about being the first
occupants of the new building.
They have elected their officers
and have gained seven new students
since last year.
There are 29 students in Mr.
Davis' eighth grade and they
have just finished achievement
tests. At the end of the year
they will be tested again to show
the progress they have made. In
science they recently started
studying the stars and the students
find it very interesting.
Mrs. Jones' ninth graders
have many new subjects this
year such as Algebra and
French I and are getting along
very well. In English they are
learning the importance of good
composition and writing and are
putting it to use.
All of the students and teachers
are looking forward to
a good year at Warren Academy.
