Norlina Beaten Twice By Louisburg Clubs Norlina dropped both games to Louisburg Friday night in games played at Louisburg. The Louisburg girls won by a basket, 37 to 35, and Norlina lost the boys game by a score of 63-47. In the girls game Louisburg took a 12 to 4 first quarter lead but was held scoreless in the second -quarter as Norlina netted W points. The third quarter was a low scoring affair but Norlina was able to add 2 more points as the girls netted 6 to 4. At the beginning of the final period Norlina held a 4 point edge, but was unable to hold it as Louisburg netted 21 points while holding Norlina to 15. Talley was leading scorer for Norlina with 16 points; Drake led Louisburg with 12 points. It was the third loss for Norlina which had won 7; Louisburg remained undefeated, 12-0. Boys Game The Louisburg boys, which have lost but one game all season, had no trouble in dumping the Norlina boys as they took a 10 point lead in the first quarter and added to the lead in the next two quarters to establish a 21 point Mead. Norlina reduced this lead to 16 points as they outscored Louisburg 16 to 11. In the first quarter Louisburg netted 18 points while holding Norlina to 8. In (he second quarter Louisburg scored 19 to 15 and in the third quarter 15 to 8. Leading scorers for Norlina were Greene with 12 and Jefferson with 10; leading Louisburg McKnight 16, Brown 15, Morton 14. Wake Team Hands Jackets Dual Loss By DON STTTH Vaiden Whitley won a basketball double-header over Warrenton Friday night on the Yellow Jackets home court. In the opener, the Jacket jayvee squad evened its record against Vaiden Whitley at 1-1 with a 65-52 loss to the visitors. Then in the nightcap the boys varsity team from Vaiden Whitley rallied in the final period of play to hand John Graham a 61-59 defeat. The Lady Jackets did not see action Friday night. Jayvee Game Vaiden Whitley jumped to an early 32-25 lead over the Jackets as first half action ended. At the start of second half play the Jackets outdistanced the visitors. 17-10, to go into final period play. Each team scored 13 points in the fourth quarter to give Vaiden Whitley the three-point win. Leading scorers for Warrenton were, Kenneth Williams and Pierre Green with 13 and 10 points. James Young and Dwight Perry were the scoring leaders for the Wake County team with ten each. Varsity Game "There's no excuse for us losing that game" was the comment given by John Graham basketball coach James Howell after Friday's game. The coach's comment appeared justified as the Yellow Jackets had Vaiden Whitley beaten up until the fourth quarter when they fell apart. John Graham sported a 38-34 lead going into the final period when the Wake County cage squad rallied for a comeback victory. This has been the case for Warrenton in the last three games. Douglas Stiff led the Jackets in scoring with 26. Other Jackets to score in double figures were Thomas Taylor and Mike Brown with 14 and 10, respectively. Vaiden Whitley was led by David Bobbitt with 25 points. Waves Win Twice Over Franklinton The Norlina Blue Waves won a double-header over visiting Franklinton Tuesday night with the girls winning 46 to 21 and the boys winning 66 to 57 in the nightcap. The Norlina girls took a 14 to 17 lead in the first quarter and ran away with the game as they scored 9-2, 12-3, and 11-9 in the final three quarters. High scorers were Rodwell 5, for Franklinton; and Talley 19 for Norlina. In the nightcap, the Warrior boys showed considerable improvement over their last meeting with St. Timothy's, when they dropped a home game by 26 points. Jesse Young's 13 points were high for WA, followed by Timmy Royster (8) and Lee Alston (7). Warrenton Wins Jayvee Contest Warrenton won a jayvee cage contest against Louisburg Thursday night on the Bulldogs' home court, 55-54. John Graham dominated the ballgame during the first half. At the start of third quarter play the Bulldogs put together an effective scoring drive that outscored the Jackets, 16-5. The Yellow Jackets fought back in the final period of play to hold off the powerful Louisburg scoring drive to win, 55-54, in the final seconds. Leading scorers for John Graham were Kenneth Williams and Pierre Green who netted 14 and 10 points each. JG Girls Give Louisburg Loss Playing without the services of leading scorer, Lorraine Williams, John Graham High School girls handed Louisburg girls their first loss of the season in a game played at Louisburg Tuesday night by the score of 48 to 46. Holding a 15 point lead at the end of three quarters, the Warrenton girls almost blew the game in the final quarter ?s Louisburg rallied to score 19 points while holding the visitors to six. The game was all Warrenton for three quarters as the girls scored 13, 17, 12 to 6, 10. 11. Leading scorers for John Graham were Rodwell 18 and Ross 13. High scorers for Louisburg were McKnight 18 and White 10. Boys Game Louisburg boys revenged the girls loss in the nightcap as they clobbered John Graham 71 to 52. Louisburg took a first quarter lead, 18 to 10, and increased it in every quarter, 19-14, 15-14, and 19-14. Stiff led Warrenton with 19 points and was high scorer for the game. Leading Louisburg were Morton 13, Brown 12, McKnight 12 and Harris 10. Offensive Blitz Key To Victory A pressing defense and fast break offense were the deciding factors as Warren Academy's Lady Warriors rolled to a 65-29 decision over Hale here Friday night. Frances Daniel, with 11 points and Michele Ayscue, with 10, led the winners.
