The boys themselves, however, want her in the pack. Mrs. Vaughan Is Tranferred Mrs. J. T. Vaughan has been transferred from Maria Parham Hospital to Hillhaven Rose Manor at 4230 N. Roxboro Road in Durham. Mrs. Vaughan fell at her home on January 11 and sustained a broken hip. New Friends Found In Library Books "Find new friends in books" is a popular slogan at South Warren Elementary School. Last week kindergarten and first graders began attending story time in the library. It was the first time in the library for most of them. Miss Keesee, the librarian, hopes to introduce the young students to many new and interesting characters this year through reading. This month the library is displaying art work of Ms. Susan Simmons—Warrenton's Third Century artist. South Warren hopes to show more of Ms. Simmon's work throughout the remainder of the school year. It's the only occupation where people get up to watch the Late, Late Show. Mrs. Dudley Is Finalist In Segram's Recipe Contest A Warren County resident, Eileen M. Dudley of Ridgeway, is one of five finalists in the third annual Seagram's V.O. International Recipe Contest. Her recipe, Bishop's Tart, was chosen from among 20,000 entries and places her in the running for the grand prize of $5,000 which will be awarded in San Francisco on Friday at an Academy Award-type ceremony. The name of Mrs. Dudley's recipe appears appropriate, since her husband is the pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Ridgeway. Bishop's Tart Preheat oven to 375 degrees 9" pastry brisee shell (recipe below) 6 cups pared, sliced baking apples '/i cup melted butter 1 cup soft, coarse whole wheat bread crumbs—toasted '/s cup sugar 1 cup Roquefort cheese at room temperature, crumbled Vt cup chopped pecans 3 tablespoons brandy 6 whole pecan halves 1. Arrange apple slices in pastry shell in circles overlapping each slice slightly. Mix melted butter, crumbs & sugar. Spoon mixture over apples. Bake in a 375 degrees F. oven for 40 minutes. Lay a piece of aluminum foil loosely over the tart for the first 25 minutes; remove for the last 15. When done, apples should be tender but still firm. While tart is baking, stir together the Roquefort cheese, chopped pecans & brandy until well blended. Spread over the hot tart as soon as it is out of the oven & garnish with the pecan halves. Serve warm to 6-8 persons. Pastry Brisee 1 cup whole wheat flour Vs cup sugar pinch salt V« pound butter Stir together the flour, sugar and salt. Cut in the butter with a pastry blender until it has the texture of coarse sand. Work dough with your hands until it forms a ball. Chill one hour. Press pastry into a 9" pie plate with your fingers until it is even & smooth. Finish edge with a scallop. Dr. Patel Passes Exam Dr. K. B. Patel, a physician practicing here since September, received notification of his having passed the American Board of Family Practitioners examination. Dr. Pate! took the exam in New York on Nov. 1-2. The Local Ruritans Attend Convention Local residents were in attendance when Ruritans from throughout the nation held their 45th national convention at the Marriott Motor Hotel in Philadelphia, Pa., on Jan. 29-31. Among the 1,700 Ruritan members from 31 states in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Filler, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Brown and Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Gottschalk of the AftonElberon Ruritan Club, and Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Little of the Norlina Ruritan Club. Mr. Gottschalk, a Ruritan zone governor, headed the local delegation. Mr. Gottschalk served as the president's escort and later served as an aide to the incoming president, Earl Buchanan of Allendale, 111. He also gave the invocation at the zone governors' breakfast.
