Guitar Performer Entertains UDC Members During Meet John Winchester, Artist-inResidence at Vance-Granville Technical Institute, entertained members of the Warren County Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Friday afternoon at the home of the hostess, Mrs. John Kerr, Jr., at Warrenton. Mr. Winchester, a native of Atlanta, Ga., has been playing the guitar for twelve years. His formal training in classical guitar was under John Sutherland at the University of Georgia in Athens where he graduated in May 1975 with a Bachelor of Music degree. In 1973, Mr. Winchester studied under Maestro Andres Segovia in Madrid, and his performance in the class won him a scholarship for study under Maestro Jose' Tomas in Sontiago de Compastela. He returned to Spain in 1974 for further work with Maestro Tomas. He later studied again under Maestro Segovia as one of twenty students chosen from over two hundred applicants. Mrs. Roger Norwood, president. presided over the I business meeting which followed. A poem, "Planted Deep," written by Mrs. Annie Fitts Dameron, was read by Mrs. Henry F. Twitty. Information on the District meeting on March 25 was given by Mrs. Twitty, who also reported on the Randolph Relief recipients. Prior to the meeting, delicacies were served from the beautifully appointed table in the dining ro6m by the hostess as Mrs. Norwood poured tea.
