vows on Saturday, May 1. in
Mount Auburn Christian
Church on Route I. Manson.
The Rev. Albert Gminder
officiated at the ceremony
Mrs. Martin is the daughter
of" Mr. and Mrs. Garland E.
Midvette of Kimball s Point.
Mr Martin is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Martin of Raleigh.
The bride was given in
marriage by her father and
wore a formal gown of acetate
with appliques of lace design
and a chapel length train. Her
fingertip veil of nylon tulle fell
from a headpiece of lace.
Miss Laura Griffon of
Zebulon was maid of honor.
Miss Marv Buxton Gainev,
niece of the bride was junior
bridesmaid. Lisa Knisfel. niece
of the groom, served as flower
girl. The attendants wore
formal length gowns of mint
green and yellow respectvelv
featuring an empire waist and
scoop neckline. They wore
flower headbands and the
flower girl carried a basket of
rose petals.
Best man was the groom s
father. Ushers were Gene
Midyette, brother of the bride.
Cliff Brown. Jim Martin and
Hank Martin, brothers of the
groom.
Mrs. W. T. Brinkley of
Durham, cousin of the bride,
rendered the music. Mrs. Allen
Kimball directed the wedding.
Mrs. Martin is a graduate of
Needham Broughton High
School and Chowan College.
She is a nurse at Duke Hospital.
Mr. Martin is a graduate of
Needham Broughton High
School. He is training as a
technician with the open heart
surgery team at Duke Hospital.
The couple will reside in
Durham.
Reception
After the ceremony Mr. and
Mrs. Midyette entertained the
wedding party and guests at
their home with a pig picking.
Tables were placed on the lawn
fronting Kerr Lake. Music was
furnished by cousins of the
bride. The wedding cake was
served by the bride's sister.
Mrs. Paul Gainey. Others
assisting in serving were Mrs.
William Hicks, Mrs. James
Frazier, Mrs. Arch Russell,
cousins of the bride and Mrs.
William Bryan.
Parties
Miss Midvette was hofiored
on April 3 with a miscellaneous
shower at the home of Mrs.
Floyd Fleming. Hostesses for
the occasion were Mrs.
Fleming. Miss Annie Cole, Mrs.
Allen Kimball, Mrs. Eugene
Wilson and Mrs. John Wilson.
Included were guests from
Durham. Oxford and Hender
son. Ladies from Mount
Auburn Church were also
invited.
The bridal couple has also
been honored with parties in
Durham and Raleigh.
After-Rehearsal Party
An after-rehearsal party was
given by the groom's parents at
the picnic shelter at Kimball's
Point. Afterwards the wedding
party and guests stayed on
Kerr Lake in cottages adjoining
the Midyettes.
Crime Commission
Officers Speakers
Crime Commission officers
from Henderson were speakers
at the youth meeting on
Monday night at the Norlina
Gospel Baptist Church. Ap
proximately 50 attended the
meeting. The officers showed a
film about drugs and the effects
to the group. A question and
answer period followed. The
officers related advice of
experts on results of marihuana
smoking and harder drugs.
Sgt. Matthews and Lt.
Pearson were the visiting
officers and are visiting
different schools and churches
to warn young people and
adults about different drugs.
Throughout the country,
there are 144 million tele
phones.
The U. S. is donating 300
million pounds of dry milk to
needy people overseas.
Hecht Wins
Scout Honor
Eagle Scout Michael Paul
Hecht was tapped out recently
to undergo the Ordeal of the
Order of the Arrow in the
scouting program. The Ordeal
was held at Camp Sam Hatcher
in Newport. March 19 and 20.
Young Hecht was among 55
candidates receiving honors at
the camp during ceremonies on
Saturday. March 20. The Order
of the Arrow is an exclusive
organization within the scout
ing program in which the
candidates are elected by fellow
members of their individual
troop.
Michael is the 14-year-old son
of Mr. and Mrs. Albert J. Hecht
of Newport and the grandson of
Mrs. Ida B. Hecht and the late
C. R. Hecht of Ridgeway. He
was awarded his Eagle Badge
in November and has been in
the scouting program for five
years with perfect attendance
for three years.
He received the Bronze Palm
recently at a Court of Honor,
has achieved the Arrow of
Light Award and earned 29
Merit Badges and eight skill
awards. He is an eighth grade
student at Newport Elemen
tary School and a member of St.
Paul Lutheran Church in
Havelock. He has been
accepted to serve as a staff
member at Boy Scout Camp
Herbert R. Bonner in Choco
winity from June 7 through
August 1.

Acteens Pay Visit

The Acteens of Sandy Creek
Baptist Church and their
leaders. Mrs. Becky Rowe and
Mrs. J. Luke Gupton of
Louisburg. made a special visit
to the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Boyd Edwards in the Cokes
bury Community on Wednes
day night. The girls brought a
sunshine gift box and fruit
basket. They sang songs to the
Edwards family. Mr. Edwards
has been an invalid for several
years.
The girls were Misses
Debrah Gupton, Brenda Ay
cock. Tammy Dickerson, Karen
Hunter, Donna Elam and
Maxine Benton. Mrs. Mollie
Paschall served the group cake
and Cokes. Miss Donna
Paschall and Mrs. Carl P.
Holtzman were also with the
group.

the exchange of vows.
Daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
James Earl Manning of Bethel,
the bride is a graduate of Peace
College and of East Carolina
University where she earned
the B.S. degree in home
economics.
The groom is the son of Mrs.
Thomas Page Perkinson of
Wise and the late Mr. Perkin
son. The groom holds a degree
in textile technology from
North Carolina State Univer
sity where he was a member
and former commander of
Sigma Nu Fraternity. He
presently is employed with
Harriet Henderson yarns. Inc.
Mrs. Susan Cassidy, organ
k ist, and Miss Katherine
' finkl^ft,. Soloist, both of
Greenville, rendered a program
of nuptial music.
Mr. Manning gave his
daughter in marriage. She wore
a formal white gown of
Maracaine knit with high neck
featuring embroidered lace
trim. The bodice was high
lighted by a V-shaped yoke of
English net with rows of pearls
radiating from the neckline.
Ruffled lace surrounded the
yoke and extended over the
sheer back. The long knit
sleeves ended with cuffs of lace
with pearl accents. The empire
waist topped a softly gathered
skirt bordered with lace and
complemented by a chapel
length train edged in matching
lace. Her elbow length veil with
lace border was attached to a
Camelot cap trimmed in
matching lace and sewn with
pearl beading. White orchids,
ivy and Sweetheart roses
formed her bouquet.
The bride had her sister.
Miss Bonita Lynn Manning of
Bethel, as her maid of honor.
Her sleeveless gown of maize
knit was styled with high
neckline and modified natural
waist. Over the gown she wore
a bolero jacket of voile in floral
patterns of blue, green, orange,
white and maize. The jacket
was fashioned with open maize
lapel collar and long sleeves
with ruffles at the wrists. She
used as a headpiece a maize
bow intertwined with baby's
breath, and she carried a
nosegay of yellow and white
daisies.
Serving as bridesmaids were
Miss Linda Carrol Manning,
sister of the bride, and Miss
Ellen M. Heath, cousin of the
bride, both of Bethel, and Mrs.
Carolyn Johnson of Conetoe.
Their gowns and headpieces
were identical to those of the
honor attendant and their
flowers were smaller replicas of
her bouquet.
Miss Toby Proctor of Dur
ham. the bride's cousin, attend
ed as flower girl. She wore a
gown of maize knit with green
trim, complemented by a head
piece matchng those of the
other attendants. Daisy petals
filled her basket. Master Roby
Ayers of Conetoe served as
ring bearer.
The groom had John Lewis
Hendrick of Henderson, his
cousin, as best man. In the
usher group were George E.
Perkinson of Raleigh, John F.
Perkinson Henderson and
Coleman Perkinson of Wise.
cousins of the groom; Hill
Yancey of Henderson; and
David Perry of Bethel.
Another cousin of the bride,
Mrs. Lenwood Heath, directed
the wedding.
Reception
The couple was honored at a
reception in the fellowship hall
of the church. Mr. and Mrs. J.
Branch Bobbitt. Jr. registered
visitors at a table holding a
portrait of the bride.
Garlands of ivy, flowers and
hanging baskets decorated the
area, which was illuminated by
candlelight from burning white
tapers in candelabra. Wedding
bells were suspended at
intervals.
Covered with white linen, the
refreshment table held a silver
punch bowl and trays and
crystal accessories. Mrs. Bill
Whichard of Bethel, Mrs. Roy
C. James of Conetoe and Mrs.
Billy Barnhill of Route 2,
Robersonville, decorated the
hall.
A five-tiered wedding cake
iced in yellow and white
centered the bride's table. This
was served along with punch
and other delicacies.
On their departure, guests
spoke goodbyes to Mr. and Mrs
Roy C. James.
Later the couple left on a
wedding trip to Myrtle Beach,
S. C. They will be at home in
Henderson after May 5.

Special Program To
Be Held At Oine
The annual Womans
Mother's Day Service will be
observed Sunday. May 9, at 4 p.
m. at the Chapel Hill Baptist
Church in the Oine community.
The speaker for the occasion
will be Mrs. Maggie H. Davis of
Henderson. She is retired from
the public school system and a
member and ardent worker in
the Brookston Baptist Church
in Henderson.
Chapel Hill will honor all
"Golden Age Women" (70 plus)
at this service. The public is
invited.

Zion 4-H Club Meets At King Home
The Zion 4-H Club held its
regular meeting on April 29 at 8
p. m. at the home of Mrs. Alice
King. Gene Rooker, acting
president, called the meeting to
order and led all discussions.
Robie Karbas led the Pledge of
Allegiance to the Flag and
Cynthia King led the 4-H
Pledge and gave the devotion.
A study of "Our National
Anthem" was given for the
program by Tommie Craft.
Four members are planning to
give demonstrations on May 20
in the County Contest. They
•re Tommie Craft, Robie
Karbas, Cynthia King and Fran
Rooker.
