New Year Brings
Choice Of Exhibits
To Warrenton
The Warrenton Arts Com
mission is sponsoring an
excellent choice of exhibits for
the first month of the New
Year—an exhibit of the Town of
Warrenton.
The exhibit will feature Joe
Wohlmuth's study of Warrenton
for urban planning and
paintings by Maggie Hayes, a
Warren County artist.
A reception for the artists
will be held on Sunday, Jan. 16.
from 3 to 5 p. m. at the Town
Hall.
Maggie Hayes is a native of
Warren County. After devoting
her time as a mother and
housewife, Mrs. Haves decided
to paint. She began her serious
painting career in 1968 after
receiving a complete art set and
drawing supplies from her son
for Christmas. She paints in
realistic style. Her paintings
will be scenes of Warren
County and she is known for
paintings of historic sites.
One of her paintings, the Old
Norlina Hotel, is currently on
display at the Norlina Library.
Recently her work was
displayed by the Kerr Lake Art
Society at the NCNR Hender
son Branch. She has also won
many prizes for entries in
exhibits.
In conjunction with Mrs.
Hayes' paintings will be maps
and photographs by Joe
Wohlmuth. He has conducted a
research project about Warren
ton centering around Main
Street. Mr. Wohlmuth is a
resident of Raleigh and works
for Ashford ind Newberry
Architects. He is studying in
the graduate department of N.
C. State University Design
School Landscape Department.
"Main Street" represents
interest in the planning and
programming of design in
special environments. His work
shows an evaluation of the uses
of Main Street in terms of
people and structures, buildings
and business establish
ments and public spaces such as
walkways, gardens and park
areas.
The exhibits will be on
display at the Town Hall.
