Jan. 20. in the home of Mrs. Margaret Ann Brame. The business was discussed informally in front of the fireplace. Plans were set up for the coming year for programs, calendar of hostess es and department assignments. The treasurers report was given, dues were collected and the Bright of America project was summarized. Primary items covered were membership, the approaching Arts Festival and plans to attend the convention in the spring. The club also received word that they will participate with the Woman's Club of Norlina in hosting the District U. North Carolina Federation of Women's Clubs Fall Meeting to be held here in October. Refreshments of soft drinks and strawberry cake were served bv the hostess. Approximately 60 friends and family attended and provided Mrs. Shearin with a wide variety of lovely gifts. Mrs. Edgar Neal. Mrs. Shearin's neice. assisted in the opening and recording of the gifts. BURGE88 Warren Native Is Named New Battalion Commander A Warren Couit'.; native is the new battalion commander of the 5th Battalion of the 113th Field Artillery of the North Carolina National Guard. Lt. Col. Leonard A. Kilian. Jr.. formerly of Ridgeway. was picked to succeed Lt. Col. Jack M. Tippett of Zebulon. who has been transferred to the N. C. Adjutant General's staff. Units of Lt. Col. Kilian's new command are located in Youngsville, Oxford. Eden. Zebulon and Louisburg. Kilian joined the National Guard in 1958 after serving two years with the seventh Division in Korea. He is a graduate of N. C. State University and was "commissioned a second lieutenant prior to his Korean experience. While a member of the National Guard, he has completed several military schools and is now enrolled in Command and General Staff College of Fort Leavenworth. Kan. He has served at High Point. Whiteville and Fort Braee and has attended schools at Fort Renning. Ga.. and Fort Sill. Okla. KIL1AN Prior to his new appointment. Kilian was assistant commander of the N. C. Military Academy operated by the N. C. National Guard at Fort BragR. He is a senior staff forester in fire control with the N. C. Forestry Service. Kilian is married to the former Laura Burt Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Williams of Inez. They live in Wake Forest with their three daughters. Catherine. Janet and Laura.
