Seven Men Charged With
Break-In Are Given Hearing
Seven men arrested last
week in connection with a
break-in at Amos Capps store
in Areola were among those
tried before Judge Ben U. Allen
of "Henderson during Friday's
mixed session of district court.
James Alston, Willie Lee
Richardson, William Richardson,
Jr., Conrad Solomon and
Eddie Williams each waived
rights to a preliminary hearing
and were ordered to appear at
the next criminal session of
Superior Court to answer
charges with $3,000 bond to
remain in effect. They had each
been charged with breaking,
entering, larceny and receiving.
Also tried were Jim Watson
Lynch and Wayne Richardson.
Charged with receiving stolen
goods, they were also ordered
to appear at Superior Court to
answer charges. Rond will
remain at $1,000 each.
In other cases tried, the
following were disposed of:
Gilbert Lynn Bowman, driving
under influence, speeding in
excess of 75 mph in 55 mph
zone, found guilty of driving
under tnlluence and voluntary
dismissal on speeding charge.
Ordered to pay fine of $100 and
court costs, surrender opera
tor's license and not operate
motor-vehicle on highways of
N. 0. for 12 months.
Peter Bullock, assault with
deadly weapon, prayer for
judgment be continued for two
years on condition he pay fine
of $50 and court costs.
Deloris Bryant, telephoning
threats, dismissed until
brought back bv court upon
service of warrant.
Bennie Burton, public drunkenness
(three charges), called
and"failed. Order of forfeiture
issued.
Edward Anderson Case,
speeding 71 in 55 mph zone,
found guilty of speeding 65 in
55 mph zone, fine $25 and court
costs.
Robert Franklin Cavlor,
speeding (i7 in 55 mph zone,
called and failed. Ordered
arrested for appearance on
February 25 with bond set at
$100.
Keith Michael Edwards,
driving under influence, failure
to drive right half of highway,
ordered to jail for six months,
suspended for two years on
condition that he pay fine of
$100 and court costs. Notice of
appeal given to next criminal
session of Superior Court with
bond to remain in effect.
Stanley Green, Jr., speeding
50 in 35 mph zone, found guilty
of exceeding safe speed, fined
$10 and court costs.
Richard Hargrove, assault on
female, voluntary dismissal.
Amos Lee Harrison, no
operator's license, not guilty.
Albert Henderson, nonsupport,
ordered to pay $15 weekly
into office of Clerk of Superior
Court for support of minor
children.
Jacob Wallace Jiggetts, no
inspection sticker, no operator's
license, careless and
reckless driving and manslaughter,
placed on inactive
file.

speeding 70 in 55 mph zone,
voluntary dismissal.
Robert Eden Loyd, driving
under influence and failure to
yield right of way. found guilty
of careless and reckless driving
after consumption of alcohol,
fined $200 and court costs.
Jerry Macklin, nonsupport,
voluntary dismissal.
Starkey Albert Manning,
speeding 74 in 55 mph zone,
found guilty of exceeding safe
speed, fined $35 and court
costs.
Herbert McPheron, speeding
60 in 35 mph zone, found guilty
of speeding 54 in 35 mph zone,
fined $50 and court costs.
James E. Perkinson, driving
under influence, driving while
license revoked, called and
failed. Ordered arrested for
appearance on Feb. 18 with
bond set at $500.
Lem Person, nonsupport,
previous sentence revoked and
ordered confined to jail for six
months and assigned to work
under supervision of N. C.
Department of Corrections.
Defendant appeared before
court one hour later and
complied with first order and
ordered to pay $190 on Friday
and remainder in 45 days.
Edgerton Plummer, Jr..
nonsupport. ordered suspended
sentence revoked and confined
to jail for six months assigned
to work under supervision of N.
C. Department of Corrections.
Elbert Guroud Rudasill,
failure to stop at stop sign,
called and failed. Ordered
arrested for appearance on
Feb. 25 with bond set at $100.
Robert Lawrence Silver,
driving under influence, called
and failed. Ordered arrested for
appearance on Feb. 25 with
bond set at $500 with order of
forfeiture on bond issued.
Matthew Sledge, improper
equipment, muffle^1, called and
failed. Ordered arrested for
appearance on Feb. 18 with
bond set at $100.
Willie James Taylor, assault
on female and bill of
particulars, called and failed.
Ordered arrested for appearance
on Feb. 18 with bond set at
$500.
Nathaniel Townes, Jr., driving
under influence, no
operator's license, ordered to
jail for 60 days, suspended for
two years on condition that he
not operate motor vehicle on
highways for one year, fined
$100 and court costs.
Cleveland Watson, public
drunkenness, ordered to jail for
20 days, suspended for one year
on condition that he pay cost of
court for two cases, fined $10
and $75 to Clerk of Superior
Court to reimburse State for
attorney fees. On charges of
worthless checks, ordered to
jail for 60 days, with sentence
to b?gin at expiration of above
sentence, suspended under
same conditions as above case
with orders that he pay amount
of checks. Voluntary dismissal
taken on other worthless check
charge.

careless and reckless driving,

found guilty of improper

Williams Represents
Base At Inaugural
Sergeant Charles E. Williams,
whose mother is Mrs.
Polly R. Williams of Warrenton
represented Seymour Johnson
AFB during the Governor's
Inaugural Parade held recently
at Raleigh.
Sergeant Williams, an inven
tory management specialist
with the 4th Supply Squadron
at Seymour Johnson, is a
member of the base honor
guard which was invited to take
part in the festivities.
The honor guard is a
volunteer- organization which
performs at military funerals
and other functions prescribed
by the Tactical Air Command.
Some of their recent accomplishments
include participation
in local Christmas parades
and the presentation of the
colors at the final performance
of the Armed Forces Bicentennial
Band at Raleigh.
Sergeant Williams entered
the Air Force in 1972.

Sergeant Lynford M. Powell,
son of Mr. and Mrs. James R.
Powell of Rt. 3, Littleton, has
arrived for duty at Boiling
AFB. Washington, D. C.
Sergeant Powell, an administrative
specialist with a unit of
the Military Airlift Command,
previously served at Kadena
AB, Japan.
The sergeant is a 1966
graduate of Mclver High
School. His wife, Mary, is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Earnest Harris of Rt. 3.
Littleton.
At Fort Bragg
Army Private James P.
White, son of Mrs. Shirley
White of Rt. 4, Henderson,
recently was assigned to the
612th Quartermaster Company
at Ft. Bragg.
The private, a driver with
the company, entered the
Army in July 1976 following
graduation from Vance Senior
High School.

The airman, a 1970 graduate
of Littleton High School,
received a B. S. degree in
geography in 1974 from East
Carolina University. He has
been assigned to Langlev AFB,

Baker Promoted
The Henderson Plant for
Americal Corporation has
announced the promotion of
Mike Baker to Packaging
Department Head. Baker has
been with Americal since June
of 1970.
A native of Norlina, he is a
graduate of Norlina High
School and attended Louisburg
College. He is married to the
former Charlotte Robinson,
also an employee of Americal.
They make their home oft Rt. 6,
Henderson in the Spring Valley
Community.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
0. R. Baker of North St.,

LITTLETON—Dr. James L.
Sullivan. President of the
thirteen million member Southern
Baptist Convention, will be
truest preacher for two services
Sunday. Feb. 13. at Littleton
Baptist Church, Littleton.
Services will be at 11 a. m. and
7:30 p. m.
Until his recent retirement.
Dr. Sullivan was for 22 years
the Executive President of the
Southern Baptist Sunday
School Board, one of the largest
publishers of religious literature
in the world. He is vicepresident
of the Baptist World
Alliance, and is the author of
six hooks. He was elected
President of the Southern
Baptist Convention in June.

Prior to his accepting the
directorship of the Sunday
School Board, Dr. Sullivan was
a pastor, serving churches in
his native Mississippi, in
Kentucky, Tennessee and
Texas. He is considered one of
the nation's outstanding
preachers, being greatly in
demand for conventions, assemblies
and churches.
