Feb. 18. at 7:30 p. m.. Stan and Sylvia Bumgarner will present a. oottery and musical program at "Friday Night At the Depot." The free film for Sunday afternoon is "Phantom of the Opera," and will be shown at , Emmanuel Episcopal Church Parish House at 3 p. m. These events are part of the month-long celebration of National Art Month sponsored locally by the Warren ton Arts Commission. Stan and Sylvia Bumgarner will be presented as guest artists on Friday night. Sylvia is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Macon Davis of Warren County. She is a talented potter currently active in the Third Century Artists program. She lives and works with her husband. Stan, in Tarboro. Sylvia will demonstrate pottery on the potter's wheel and exhibit some of her finished pieces of pottery. She is very interested in 17th and 18th century techniques of Ameri can and English potters. Mrs. Bumgarner has studied at East Carolina University and recently completed private study with internationally known potter. Karen Karnes of New York. The Bumgarners have both studied in the summer at North Carolina's own Penland School of Crafts located in the mountains. As a Third Century Artist Sylvia has organized a craft co-operative in Tarboro and gives programs, exhibits and workshops related to pottery and sculpture. This year Sylvia's special project is a public sculpture to be complet ed this spring involving young people and community volun teers. Stan Bumgarner will present a musical program using the guitar, mountain dulcimer and lute. He is an accomplished musician in the visiting artists program which parallels the Third Century Artist program. Mr. Bumgarner works through the Edgecombe County Techni cal Institute. Stan's program Stan holds a B. S. degree from Ijenoir-Rhvne College and he has studied with the celebrated Jesus Silvia, instruc tor at North Carolina School of the Arts. The original version of "Phantom of the Opera" starring I/>n Chanev will be presented as part of the free film series on Sunday. This is the storv of a man. Lon Chanev, who is misunderstood and becomes the phantom of the local opera house. It is full of thrills and chills of the classic variety but there is very little violence in this vintage film.
