Rt. 1, Warrenton, and Wayne Pavnter. Wise, attended the two-week course this year and also were present for the alumni meeting. Howard Daniel. Warren County Key Banker and David Dodd were unable to attend. .This was a very good meeting. The President of the American Banker's Association made the keynote speech. He was from the state of Kansas. Dr. Kenneth Keller, Director. N. C. Experiment Stations, talked on the functions of the Experiment Stations. Former students told about their farming operations and how the short course had helped them, also how the banks and bankers fitted into their programs, and also the necessity of being able to borrow money and using it wisely to make money. It was amazing to hear of the progress made by many of these individuals in their farming operation. I personally would like to thank the banks in Warren County for making it possible for so many young men to attend this course over the past 25 years from Warren County. Flue-Cured Tobacco Coopera tive Corporation, the grower organization which administers the price support program for flue-cured tobacco, will hold its 19th annual district meeting for North Carolina growers in District 8. District 8 includes the following flue-cured counties in the NC-Middle Belt: Chatham. Durham, Franklin. Granville, Lee. Montgomery, Moore, Orange, Vance. Wake, and Warren. Marsh H. Currin of Oxford, Director from District 8 and Fred G. Bond, General Manager, jointly announced that the meeting will be held in the Durham County Agriculture Building, 721 Foster Street. Durham, on Feb. 28, beginning at 2:00 p. m. The CO-OP's operational report for the calendar year will be given. Also, of vital concern to every flue-cured grower, will be discussion on the large inventory build up of down-stalk grades of tobacco in Stabilization's inventory. Stabilization's stocks totaled 608 million pounds as of January 1. 1977. a large percentage of which consisted of down-stalk tobacco. Currin noted that on Jan. 1. 1975, Stabilization held just under 100 million pounds of tobacco in inventory. Over 535 million pounds of tobacco moved into Stabilization's inventory from the 1975 and 1976 crops. He further added that Stabilization's sales for the past two calendar years have totaled less than 28 million pounds which has caused further concern, as normal sales activity over a two-year period amounts to more than 250 million pounds. In addition, reports will be given by representatives of Tobacco Associates, Inc.: Tobacco Growers' Information Committee: USDA-AMS Inspection (Grading) Service; and other allied organizations and agencies. Ample time will be provided for discussion. A brief business session will be held for the election of Stabilization's Advisory Committee members for the coming year. Also, the election of the director to represent District 8 members on Stabilization's Board for the ensuing 3-year term will be held during the business session. Currin added. "Flue-cured growers are .urged to make every effort to attend the Durham meeting in order to get a better understanding of the problems confronting all segments of the tobacco industrv." South Africa produces about half of the world's supply of gold. In Memoriam In memory of Sister Blanche Pinnell Burroughs. The most wonderful person on this earth was recently taken from me. I know not why God had to call, and so many things I can not see. For I know how much I loved her and how much she cared for me. Now that it is over, she was kind and true. She loved each of her children and was a friend to all she knew. I know God works in many ways, I try to leave it up to Him. But why me Lord? I cry out loud, for my nights will never end.
