Scott Stone capped the Halifax victory with two seconds remaining on the game clock with two free-throws. All hopes of locking the scores at 51 -all were killed when a Halifax player stole the hall on Warren's final attempt to put the ball in play. The Warriors shot 54 percent from the floor and 76 percent from the charity stripe. Carl Quails and Everette Knight paced the Warriors with 25 and ten points each. Pipe Cleaning Operation Begun HENDEBSON—Tha cleaning out of more than five miles of pipe in the Regional Water System began Monday. The company that installed the pipe for the $12.6 million project will run a pipe cleaning tool through the lines in an effort to clean out loose pipe sealant that contaminated the water last September when the system was being tested. It is not known how long the operation will take. The sealant appeared as black specks in the water and caused several local industries to shut down operations. Some of the industries have said they will seek compensation for the damage. The city maintains the problem was the responsibility of the project's engineers and contractors. The system was being operated on a test basis. The city had not officially accepted the project, nor will it be accepted until the problem is corrected, officials say. There has been no word on when the system will be put into use again. The regional Water System uses Kerr Lake as its source and will supply the towns of Henderson, Oxford and Soul City. Leaf Crop Average In Excess Of Ton Final figures on the 1976 flue-cured tobacco crop in North Carolina show an average yield of 2,008 pounds per acre and a 6 per cent reduction in total production. A decrease had been anticipated as a result of a reduction of 15 per cent in the basic allotments growers were allowed to sell under the price support program. This full 15 per cent cut wasn't reflected in the final figures due to carryover of allotments from the 1975 season. Nationally, the flue-cured crop totaled 1.3 billion pounds, 881.6 million pounds of which were grown in North Carolina. The U. S. average yield was 1,971 pounds according to the N. C. Crop and Livestock Reporting Service. Carl Quails (jets a Hard bump from an unidentified Halifax plaver on a fast break after Harold Seaman grabbed a rebound for the Warren Arademv Warriors. Quails made both of his free-throws, but the Warriors failed to win the contest, falling 51-49.
