Bake Sale
Women of Wesley Memorial
Methodist Church will sponsor
a hake sale at the AAA Gas
Company on March 4 beginning
at 9:30 a. m.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard D. Harmon announce the engagement
of their daughter. Juanita Gayle of Raleigh, to Michael Jerry
Todd of Raleigh, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Joseph Todd of
Windsor. The wedding is planned for April 23.
Patsy Daniel To Visit Bahamas
Miss Patsv Daniel of U.N.C.
Chapel Hill will fly to Miami,
Fla.. on Friday to spend the
weekend. On Monday she will
leave on a five day cruise to the
Rahamas. Miss Daniel will
return bv plane to Charlotte on
the following Friday and spend
the weekend with Jeff Linkler
and family before returning to
her studies at Chapel Hill.
Patsv is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs Stephen Daniel of
Norlina.
Academy
Student
Honored
Timothy Guy Capps, a
student at Warren Academy
and son of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton
Capps of Areola, was among the
eight finalists in the National
Electrical Week essay sponsored
by the N. C. Electrical
Industry Committee, it was
announced this week by
Carolina Power and Light Co.
The contest topic for seventh
and eighth grade students was
"What Electricity Means To
Me."
Winners were announced at
an awards luncheon at the
Velvet Cloak Inn at Raleigh on
Feb. 14. honoring finalists,
their parents and teachers. The
announcement of winners was
made by Dr. Craig Phillips,
State Superintendent of Public
Instruction, who also addressed
the group.
First prize, a $750 savings
bond, went to Kelly Elizabeth
Moss, an eighth grade student
at Tryon Elementary School in
Trvon; second prize, a $500
bond, went to Tom Patten, an
eighth grade student at Hamlet
Junior High in Hamlet; and
third prize, a $250 bond, was
won by Bobb'y Touchton, an
eighth grade student at Trinity
Jr. High School in High Point.
Others among the eight
finalists received a $100 bond.

Mrs. Harrington Is
'Woman Of Year'
Mrs. Jean Dunn Harrington,
prominent civic, social and club
woman at Eden was named the
Eden Chamber of Commerce's
"Citi/en of the Year" at the
annual Awards Night banquet
held on Thursday night of last
week.
Mrs. Harrington is the wife
of Eden attorney Tommy
Harrington, a Warren County
native, the son of Mr. and Mrs.
T. J. Harrington of Henderson.
Route 2. Mr. and Mrs. Tommy
Harrington are the parents of
two sons.
Harold Lambert cited Mrs.
Harrington for four traits that
led to her election. "They make
up the word 'COPE', he noted.

personality and enthusiasm.
She has all of these."
In reviewing some of Mrs.
Harrington's activities in the
past year. Lambert noted that
she has been a busy and active
person. "She has served as
chairman of the Eden Board of
Education," he said.
In this position, she cham
pioned a return to the
fundamentals in education. A
return, she noted in giving up
the reins to that position, she
believes the schools have made
progress toward in the past
year.
She also was very active in
planning for Rockingham County's
bicentennial observances.
During 1976. she co-chaired the
Rockingham County's Bicenten
nial Governor's Rail Commission—a
fete that was termed a
great success by all who
attended the costume affair at
RCC one night last summer.
She also was co-chairman of
Rockingham County's Bicenten
nial Commission.
Mrs. Harrington also serves
on the Rockingham Countv
Social Services Roard. is a
member of the Roanoke Island
Historical Committee, a member
of the DAR and a member
of the First Baptist Church.
Among other honors she has
won is the Eden Junior
Women's Club "COPE" award
for 1975.
Mrs. Harrington expressed
surprise at being named the
recipient of the award. "While I
was sitting at the table I ran
through a number of people I
thought would win it." she said.
"I didn't think, it would be me."
"I'd rather have this than be
inaugurated president," she
said.
Birth
Mr. and Mrs. Edward L.
Williams of Rt. 4, Henderson,
announce the birth of a
daughter, Marcia Jeanine, on
Feb. 9 at Duke Medical Center.
Mrs. Williams is the former
Miss Lois Jean Royster of Rt. 1,
Nashville. She is a teacher at
Hawkins Junior High School.

Mrs. Julia I. Fork of Warrenton announces the engagement
of her daughter. Phyllis Ann, to Richard Clayton Tunstall, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin D. Tunstall of Warrenton. She is also
the daughter of the late Junious L. Fogg.
A July 2 wedding is planned. All relatives and friends are
invited.
Beauticians Attend Convention
The National Hairdresser
and Cosmetologist Association
of North Carolina held their
29th annual convention Feb. 26
through March 1 at the Royal
Villa in Raleigh.
Reckv Collier. Tillie Daeke,
Marv Lou Lewis, Cathy
Stallings and Carolyn Adcock
represented the NHCA affiliate
#33 at the convention.

a speech by David Bagwell,

the business sessions. They
elected state-wide officers and
then attended a fashion
show luncheon which featured
the theme "Magical Scoop." this
was additional hairstyles and
fashions for spring.

Mustian Serving As
Temporary Pastor
A Warren County native is
"back at home" serving as
interim pastor of the Warren
Plains Baptist Church. He is the
Rev. Rix Mustian, who was
baptized in the church in 1932.
He has served in many
capacities of church work
including teacher, superintendent,
chairman of the board of
deacons and president of the
Baptist men.
In 1968, the Rev. Mr.
Mustian was licensed as a lay
minister by Rosemary Baptist
Church in Roanoke Rapids and
in 1969 became pastor of the
Darlington Baptist Church of
Rt. 2, Littleton.
In 1974 he was ordained into
the ministry by the Rosemary
Baptist Church and has served
in that capacity as pastor of
Darlington.
He is married to the former
Marv Snipes of Norlina. They
