Mrs. Clara Holt and Mrs. Linda Griffin of Wakefield, Va., Mrs. Beulah Cooper oi Dedrum, Va.; Mrs. Lula West and Mrs. Mollie Haithcock of Macon were luncheon guests on Saturday of Mrs. Maggie Adcock. Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Sutherland of Wilson, Mrs. Margaret Creech of Wake Forest. Mr. James Gitman of Raleigh and family, and Mrs. Ronnie Pernell and Preston of Afton-Elberon were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. David Aycock. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Granger, Jr., and family were dinner guests on Monday with the Aycocks. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Pullen and family stayed Thursday through Saturday with her mother, Mrs. J. E. Rooker, in St. Petersburg, Fla. Bridge Club Meets With Mrs. Fleming The Drew rv Bridge Club met in the home of Mrs. Roger Fleming last Thursday night. High score was Mrs. A. L. Falkner, Jr. Second high was Mrs. Joe Mabry, Jr. Mrs. W. H. Fletcher won the surprise hand and the floating prize. Mrs. C. B. Curtis, Jr., was the bingo winner. Others playing were Mrs. Edmund White, Mrs. Ellis Fleming and Miss Ann Floyd. The hostess served chocolate jclaires and coffee. Jr. Woman's Club Meets Thursday The Nor Una Junior Woman's Club met in the home of Mrs. Nancy Paynter on Thursday, March 17. The club president, Mrs. Katie Fleming, called the meeting to order and presided. Mrs. Ann Powell gave a devotion entitled "Count Your Gains, Not Your Losses" and led in prayer. Departmental reports were made and business discussed. Of special interest were plans made for the members to attend the State Arts Festival in Winston-Salem on March 26 and the North Carolina Federation of Women's Clubs Annual Convention in April. Plans were also begun toward projects to benefit the Norlina Fire Department and the student scholarship fund of the club. Mrs. Nancy Paynter, Conservation Department head, introduced the guest. Miss Cynthia King. Miss King brought a demonstration on how to "Root for a Greener Home." The program showed how to make cuttings from existing house plants and root them and later place them in a permanent container as a new plant. There followed a question and answer time on general care of house plants. The meeting closed with the reading of the club collect. A hedgehog has a normal heartbeat of 250 per minute which will drop to three per minute during cold weather! Norlina Senior Club Band Makes Its Debut The Norlini Senior Social Club Rhythm Band made its debut Thursday night, March 17, at the Areola Community Center. By invitation of the Areola Senior Citizens, the band prepared a concert and alter a month's practice performed before 34 appreciative friends. Performance date being St. Patrick's Day, the decor of shamrocks and greenery was enhanced by the band's rendition of "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling," "My Wild Irish Rose" and "Irish Lullaby." The band also played "Dixie" and "Little Brown Church in the Vale." Thirty band members performed with Gladys Perkinson at the piano. Featured instrument solos were the glockenspiel played by Joyce Mabry and the harmonica played by Lillian Kilian. Four trumpeters featured in "Dixie" were Sudie Coleman. Mary BraVier, Hazel Norwood and Emma Hicks. A song and dance routine of "Reuben and Rachel" and "The Easter Parade" were interjected into the concert. The "Guys and Gals" who performed this were Louise Haithcock, Helen Whitmore, Loyce Blaylock, Cornelia Wiggins, Emma Hicks, Orphelia Pearce, Martha Draffin, . Ellen Moseley, Hazel Norwood, Ethel Tharrington, Joyce Mabry and Lula Belle Alian. The fashion show concluded the program with Sue Felts, Emma Hicks, Orphelia Pearce, and Ix>uise Haithcock featured. The Areola hosts and hostesses had treated their guests to a sumptuous meal and were gracious in their hospitality. The Norlina Senior Social Club meets today (Thursday) at 2 p. m. at the Norlina Baptist Church. The band concert will be part of the program. Zion Society Meets With Mrs. Lynch The Zion Woman's Society of Christian Service met on March 7 in the home of Mrs. Edna Lynch with 15 present. Mrs. Lillie Hardin, president, presided and Mrs. Everlyna Norwood gave the devotion to open. A Lenten program was presented by Mrs. Alma Mayfield. Special business discussed included a reminder of the sub-district meeting to be held at Zion United Methodist Church on March 30 at 10 a. m. Members were asked to bring a sandwich. A nursery will be provided. Members also discussed the community supper scheduled for Friday, March 25 in the Zion Educational Building, 4:30 p. m. to 8:30 p. m. Tickets for adults and children are available. Revival plans were also made. Revival will be Sunday, March 27-Friday, April 1 at 7:30 p. m. A fellowship supper will kick things off at 6 p^ m. on Sunday evening. The April meeting will be with Mrs. Selma Rooker. "A wise man will make more opportunity than he finds." Francis Bacon GRIFFIN Griffin To Preach At Revival Services Revival services will be held at Wise Baptist Church March 29 through April 1 beginning at 7:30 p. m. each evening. The Rev. James A. Griffin, pastor of Falling River Baptist Church of Brookneal, Va„ will be the guest evangelist. Mr. Griffin was born in Due West, S. C., and was educated in the schools there. He is a graduate of Erskin College and Southeastern Baptist Seminary. He has served as pastor of churches in the Concord Association and the Black Water Association in Virginia and has been at Falling River for over four years. Special music will be presented each night. The Rev. R. S. Rogers, pastor of the church, extended an invitation to the public to attend the services. Phyllis T. Bullock Named Delegate Phyllis T. Bullock, Norlina High School sophomore, has been selected to represent Warren County in a spring contest to select a delegate for the State Youth Advisory Council lor School Food Service. The N.C. School Food Service Association Standards Committee will choose five students from throughout the state to compose the State Youth Advisory Council for the school year 1977-78. Phyllis was recommended by two Norlina High School teachers, Mrs. Susie A. Knight and Mrs. Sue Skinner; and by Mrs. Ann Kilian, county lunchroom supervisor. The Youth Council members work together to co-ordinate efforts to improve school food service and child nutrition programs. If selected Phyllis would travel to various district and state meetings representing District II. Bridge Club Meets With Mrs. Clarke The Norlina Bridge Club met with Mrs. John Clarke on March 15. High score went to Mrs. Earl Stegall. Second high scorer w as Mrs. Kenneth Davis and the bingo prize went to Mrs. Martha Draffin. Guest player was Mrs. John W. Mayl'ield. Revival Services Planned At Zion Zion United Methodist Church will launch their services of revival on Sunday, March 27 at 6 p. ra.with a kick-off fellowship supper for the church family. Revival services will begin Sunday evening and continue each night at 7:30 p. m. through Friday, April 1. The Rev. Chris Hughes. Youth Director of Zion United Methodist and Jerusalem United Methodist Church and Divinity student at Duke, will lead the services on Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday evenings. The Rev. Jim Hebel, pastor of the two churches, will preach on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The com munity is invited to participate. Sub-District Meet To Be Held At Zion The United Methodist Women Sub-District meeting will be held at Zion United Methodist Church at 10 a. m. on Wednesday, March 30. There will be a planned program and a nursery will be provided. All attending are asked to bring a sandwich, all else will be supplied.
