While here they also visited w .t h their sister, Mrs. Erma Netherv, in Maria Parham I ospitai Senior Social Club Holds Meeting At Baptist Church The Norlina Senior Social Club held its monthly meeting. Thursday, March 24, at the Norlina Baptist Church. Sixtyone members and guests attended. The fellowship hall was decorated with three arrangements of spring flowers by the hostess, Mrs. Mamie Weaver. Mrs. Hazel Norwood assisted Mrs. Weaver. The club's Rhythm Band played a hymn to accompany the singing of those present. The Rev. G. Elton Cooke gave the devotional, using slides taktn ir. bv Mrs. Joyce Mabry, the club's president. The slides were statues of Jesus during Easter week. A recording of "Were You There" ?and "The Hallelujah Chorus" and scripture of the Easter story contributed to the devotional mood. The club's by laws were read by Miss Loyce Blaylock, chairperson of the By-Laws Committee. They were approved by the club with one amendment made by Mrs. Sudie Coleman, Trips were discussed and all voted. The first trip will be on Thursday, April 14, and it will be to Norfolk, Va. A tour of Garden-By-TheSea, an azalea garden, two old homes, the Moses Myer House, the Willoughby Baylor House and the Douglas MacArthur Library are sites to be toured. Mrs. Ellen Moseley, trip coordinator, is preparing the passenger list. The program for the day was the St. Patrick's Day Concert which had been presented to the Areola Senior Citizen's by the Norlina Rhythm Band, and the "Guys and Gals." Birthday celebrants were recognized, and a birthday cake was shared as part of the delicious refreshments. The April 28th meeting will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 2 p. m. An overnight trip tc Washington, D. C. is in the planning to be discussed at that meeting. Honored Governor Busbee honored Fletcher Wolfe of Atlanta, Ga., with the presentation of The Governor's Award for Music for 1977 for his outstanding work with the Atlanta Boy's Choir. Mr. Wolfe is the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Wolfe of Norlina. JEANS and SHIRTS LEIGH'S In Norlina Tommie Craft Presides At Meet At the Zion 4 H Club, held this week, president Tommie Craft called the meeting to order. Gene Rooker led in the pledge of allegiance to the flag. Angela Schuster led the 4-H pledge. The program was presented by Mrs. Lou Hayes. She showed two films, one about smoking and the second about alcohol. Following the viewing of the films, discussion centered on the effects of smoking and alcohol on one's health, and the reasons young people begin smoking and drinking alcohol. Wedding Planned Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Bolton and Mr. and Mrs. John M. Ross, Sr., invite their friends and relatives to the wedding of their children, Cheryl Anne Bolton to Joseph Alfred Ross, on Sunday, April 10, at 3 p. m. at the Norlina Baptist Church. Local Visits Mrs. Ada Carter, Nancy and Bob of Manson spent several days last week with Mr. and Mrs. James Warren and family of Chesapeake, Va., and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Powell and Mrs. Ann Perea of Portsmouth, Va. Bobby Evan of Norlina and Mrs. Alice Herron and Richard of hjcky Mount visited Mrs. Thelma Bartholow in Baltimore last weekend. In Hospital Clyde A. Hicks of Norlina is in Durham County General Hospital. Baptist Circles Meet March 28 Monday, March 28 was the meeting day for the circle* of the Woman's Missionary Union of the Norlina Baptist Church. The MatUe Pridgen Prayer Group met in the home of Mrs. Eva Egerton with eight members present. Mrs. Alice Stultz, circle chairman, opened with the reading of Psalm 23. The prayer calendar was presented. Business included plans to remember shut-ins. "Ministry to the Deaf' was rendered by Mrs. Viola Taylor and Mrs. Ann Reed. Following the program Mrs. H. H. Foster closed with prayer. A sweet course and coffee were served by the hostess at the fellowship time. Mrs. Ora Moore was hostess to the Lola Sue Mission Action Group in her home. Mrs. Hyla Stultz, group chairman, opened the meeting with a devotional thought and Mrs. Moore led in prayer. During the business session Mrs. Nita Fuller, sick and cheer chairman, gave a report of remembrances to shut-ins. Plans were made for mission action at Easter, for attendance at General Meeting in April and for help with the Acteens bake sale. Mrs. Emily Bobbitt presented the program entitled "Literate Missions" and gave the calendar of prayer. Mrs. Fuller led the closing prayer. The hostess served the eight members present a salad plate and crackers, homemade cookies and coffee. The group will meet with Mrs. Hyla Stultz in April. The Annie Armstrong Prayer Group met with Mrs. Lucille Bowen with 11 members and one visitor present. Mrs. Ann Pullen opened with prayer and group chairman, Mrs. Beatrice Setzer, read a poem "John 3:16." Plans were made to remember shut-ins during the next month. Mrs. Margaret Kelts gave a program on missionaries and their lives. Mrs. Ann Mulchi closed with prayer. The hostess invited all into the dining room for punch, cake, nuts and chips. Mrs. Harriett Faulkner served as hostess to the Olga Hood Bible Study Group. Mrs. Barbara Cooke opened the meeting with a devotional short story, "Dying to Self' and led in prayer. Mission action projects were discussed and plans for the General Meeting of WMU were handled. Mrs. Faulkner gave the program from Matthew on the parables of Christ.
