New Ladies Unit
Elects Officers
Officers have been elected
for a newly formed ladies
auxiliary of the Drewry
Volunteer Fire Department.
Barbara Holtzmann was
named to serve as president of
the new group as members
gathered la«t week at the Fire
Department to pick a slate of
officers.
Other posts will be filled by
Janice Rurnette, vice president;
Faye Holtzmann, secretary;
and Hazel Williams,
treasurer.
Drewry Fire Chief A. P.
Holtzmann, Jr., and Mrs. A. A.
Wood, wife of the Warrenton
Rural Fire Department Chief,
were guests of the auxiliary.
Chief Holtzmann encouraged
the new members to be active
in their unit and offered
assistance from the Fire
Department.
Mrs. Wood explained how a
similar auxiliary in Warrenton
was begun and what projects
had been accomplished. She
also listed what she considered
to be worthwhile goals for the
Drewry Auxiliary.
The Drewry Auxiliary is
plannipg to conduct monthly
meetings on the second
Tuesday of each month
beginning at 8 p. m.

Miss Bender Gains
Law School Entry
Arlene L. Bender, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. William H.
Bender of Route 2, Norlina, has
been accepted at Yale Law
School in New Haven, Conn.
She will enter the Yale Law
School class of 1980, in
September.
Ms. Bender, who attended
Vance County High School, was
graduated summa cum laude in
1975 from Duke University,
where she was an A. B. Duke
Memorial Scholar and was
elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
Following graduation from
Duke, she worked briefly at the
Washington, D. C. law firm of
Carr, Bonner, O'Connell, Kaplan
and Thompson.
Since December, 1975, she
has been a paralegal at the
Department of Justice in
Washington, where she tentatively
plans to practice law
following graduation from Yale.
Birth
Mr. and Mrs. William E.
Bender of Baltimore, Md.,
announce the birth of a
daughter, Tara Summer, on
April 17. Mrs. Bender is the
former Victoria Quinan of
Baltimore. Mr. and Mrs.
William H. Bender of Norlina
are the parental grandparents.
Favorites Will Be Served
Students at North Warren
Middle School will be served
their favorite foods during the
week of April 25 through 29.
School council members
under the leadership of William
Shulenburger, faculty advisor,
planned the week's school lunch
menus. This is the third week
during the school year that the
council has worked with Mrs.
Mattie Hawkins, lunchroom
manager, in planning pupilpleasing
menus. Their menus
next week will be:

cole slaw, French fries, apple
turnover, milk. ,
Annual Spring Concert
Planned At Louisburg
The Louisburg College Glee
Club will present its annual
Spring Concert on Thursday,
April 28, at 8 p. m., in the
College Auditorium. The program
will consist of secular
music from the 17th, 18th and
19th centuries, English and
American folk songs, and
selections from Broadway
musicals.
The public is invited to
attend the concert and the
reception which will follow in
the Art Gallery of the Fine Arts
Center.

Northside School
Workshop Planned
A workshop for parents of
pre school children through
grade three will be held on
Wednesday, April 27, at
Northside Elementary School
from 9 a. m. to 11:30 a. m. and
at Vaughan Elementary School
from 1 p. m. to 3:30 p. m.
The workshop will teach
parents things to do with their
children during the summer.
Annual Meeting Of
WMU Is Scheduled
The annual meeting of the
Woman's Missionary Union of
the Cullom Baptist Association
will be held on Tuesday, April
26, at the First Baptist church
of Henderson. Registration will
begin at 9:30 a. m., with the
meeting beginning at 10 a. m.
and continuing until 2:30 p. m.
Miss Suthell Walker will be
the morning speaker, and the
Rev. and Mrs. Jimmy Burn*
ham, missionaries on furlough
from Israel, will be the
afternoon speakers.
All WMU directors and
members are invited to attend.
Lunch will be served by the
host church.

Fashion Revue
Oita Cheston, a member of
Norlina Youth Improvement
1-H Club was declared county
winner in the 4-H Fashion
Revue held Saturday, April 16,

Building. Oita's entry in
