Smoke Signals News Of Warren Academy The Junior-Senior Prom was quite an affair. The gym was beautifully decorated carrying out the theme song, "Here Comes the Sun." The backdrop with the sun and trees was a masterpiece. The ]uniors and their sponsor, Mr. Peoples, put in many long hours, but they were well spent because the whole affair was beautiful. The seniors say thanks to the juniors for a night they will long remember. An after-party was enjoyed by the juniors and seniors at the home of Charlie Currin. The party for the seniors was hosted by the junior class. Also enjoying the party were some of the alumni who were already out of college for the summer. A breakfast for the juniors and seniors was hosted by some of their parents. It was appreciated by all and a special thanks to the parents who arose at a very early hour and helped in the preparation of the breakfast. The students are having to buckle down this week in order to bring up their grades or keep them up in order to be exempted from exams. The last few weeks are always the hardest, it seems, with so much going on at school. It is hard to concentrate on studies with graduation and end of school so near. Also, thoughts are constantly turning to the lake, the beaches, and the good times to be had when school is out. But we must remember that hard work pays off in the long run. Last Friday the sixth grade traveled to Rocky Mount for their special outing. They had a good time at Skateland and recommend it highly. They had lunch at Hardee's, and their trip was under the sponsorship of Mrs. Diane Davis. The first grade is getting ready for an exciting trip. They are planning a trip to the Mufceum „ of' Life and Science located in Durham. They wilfbb lea ving around 9 a. m. and returning around 3 p. m. Under the leadership of Mrs. Libba Traylor, they will be re-enforcing their study of animals. With much excitement the third, fourth, and fifth grades are planning a trip to the historic city of New Bern. They will be leaving by chartered bus on Wednesday, May 18. They are planning to tour Tryon Palace, the Fireman's Museum, and other points of interest. We hope the weather stays pretty for the trips, and If it rains, which we do need, that it will rain at night! The kindergarten class is really looking forward to their commencement exercises, Sunday, May 22, at 3 p. m. Under the direction of Mrs. Julius Banzet, III, the kindergarten will present "Kindergarten Kapers," a musical program spotlighting "Sesame Street." If you enjoy seeing little ones perform, please be sure to come. You will he in for a treat. They are always entertaining and seem to be enjoying every bit of their performance. The high school students had their week last week, and this week belongs to the younger students with all their planned trips and the kindergarten exercises. We hope they enjoy their week as much as the juniors and seniors did theirs! To Hold Exercises Commencement exercises for the 1977 kindergarten class of Warren Academy will be held in the Academy gymnasium on Sunday, May 22, at 3 p. m. The public is cordially invited to attend. Under the direction of their teacher, Mrs. Julius Banzet, III, the 17 kindergarten students will present "Kindergarten Kapers," a musical program, with a special salute to "Sesame Street." Headmaster B. L. King and Julius Banzet, III, chairman of the Warren Academy Board of Directors, will present Kindergarten Diplomas to each student. Following the diploma presentation, an informal reception will be held. Vehicle Damaged In Accident A single-car accident during the weekend caused about >750 in damages, W.C. Palmer of the Highway Patrol reported. There were p6 injuries. ''r. Troopet' Palnier explained that Jack Cockrell, 22, of Henderson, was northbound on U.S. Highway 1, just north of Manson, when he apparently crossed left of center and suddenly swerved back to the right, crashing into a ditch embankment. The trooper reported that the auto was registered to Linda Tharrington Grissom of Henderson. Cockrell was charged with driving under the influence and driving left of center. North Warren Junior Beta Club Holds Installation Ceremonies The North Warren Middle School Junior Beta Club held its annual Installation Ceremony in the school auditorium on Friday, May 13. Mark Ellington, Clifton E. Hicks, Lisa Martin, David Paschall, Donna G. Paschall, Kathy Powell, Mark Sammons, and David Stegall were installed into the organization by chapter president, Elaine Palmer. Susan Currie and Teresa Dickerson assisted in the bestowing of credentials on the new members. Mark Ellington, who opened the program with a Bible reading and prayer, was installed as president-elect for the 1977-78 school year. An inspiring talk about moral character, scholarship and the freedom of human choice was given by James Jordan, Assistant Superintendent of Warren County Schools. He encouraged all students to strive to do their best in all endeavors. District Junior Clubs Meet Here The historic Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Warrenton was the setting for the third annual North Carolina Federation of Women's Clubs district Fourteen Junior Day on Saturday, May 14. Hosted by the Warrenton Juniors, the day began with coffee, cokes, and homemade treats served on the lawn. Miss Priscilla Davis,' District Junior Director, presided at the assembly. Mrs. John Coleman, president of the Warrenton Juniors, officially welcomed representatives from five clubs to Warrenton. The invocation was given by the Rev. Robert Orvis, pastor of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church. He explained to the group the church was built in the 1800's and is an historical site in Warrenton. The first workshop was conducted by Mrs. L. 0. Robertson, Jr., NCFWC Conservation Chairman. Mrs. Robertson introduced Gordon Green, who distributed energy kits supplied by Carolina Power and Light. The kit was examined by Mr. Green and listed many various ways to win the battle of the energy crisis. The second workshop was given by Dr. Sally Feathers and entitled "Parent Effectiveness Training." Dr. Feathers explained several proven, effective ways to communicate with children and summarized that P. E. T. does not move mountains but builds bridges. The day was concluded with a delicious luncheon catered by the Friendly Bible Class of Providence Methodist Church. A "Stuff V Such" cookbook, compiled by the Warrenton Juniors, Home Life Department was given each attending member as a special favor. The cookbook contains recipes collected from Juniors in the District and may be purchased from any Warrenton Junior for II.
