Westpoint, Va., was a
weekend guest of Mrs. J.E.
Adams. On Saturday they
attended the alumni meeting
at Meredith College in
Raleigh.
Mrs. Walker Burwell
spent the weekend in
Raleigh with Mrs. Thurston
Hicks and family.
Mrs. J.H. Harris is
spending some time with
Mrs. Eddie Echols in
Patterson, Ga.
Mrs. J.E. Cheves is

the Brownie Troop 379 to the
North Carolina Zoo at
Asheboro on Saturday.

returned from a visit in
Lumberton with her daugh

Clifton Keith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Keith of
Wake Forest. A June 12th wedding is planned.

speaker. Mr. Fultz is the
horticulturalist for Capitol
Broadcasting Company and
presented a most interesting
program on growing and

to come to Raleigh and visit
the WRAL gardens of which
he oversees.
As is customary at each
May meeting a garden club
member is elected by vote of
membership to receive the
Hildegard King Award. This
year the award for the most
active garden club member
went to Mrs. NittftI Gardner.
She not only has been
active in the Little Garden
Club but has spread interest
in garden club work by
presenting programs to
other groups.
After several other matters
of business, the meeting
was adjourned.
Warren Chapter
Of DAR Has Meet
The Warren County Chapter
of the Daughtera of the
American Revolution met
Saturday at the home of
Mra. Pryor Allen. Joint
hostesses were Mra. W. R.
Baakervlll, Mrs. A. H.
Bryaon and Mra. J. E.
Rooker, Jr.
A dessert course with
cheese straws was served
by the hostesses.
Following the refreshment
hour, Mrs. W. T.
Skinner, III, regent, and
Mrs. W. R. Baskervill,
chaplain, presented the
opening ritual. The secretary
and treasurer's report
was given.
Mrs. Rooker showed the
award Warren Chapter has
received from the President
General Jane F. Smith in
Washington for outstanding
work in the field of bicentennial
work.
A box of clothing was sent
to Crossnore by Mrs. W. R.
Woodall and Mrs. W. B.
Crinkley received magazines,
books and crutch pads
for Veterans Hospital.
The guest speaker was
Mrs. Martha Robinson,
State Regent from Raleigh.
The ladies gave her a
standing ovation as she was
introduced by Mrs. Rooker.
Mrs. Robinson presented
an extremely interesting
and informative program on
Continental Congress' recent
meeting in Washington.
This was Mrs. Robinson's 26
Congress that she has
attended and she gave the
highlights. One of the
aspirations of the Congress
is placing a mural in the
east wing of the Capitol at
Washington.
Furnishings for the State
Capitol in Raleigh is
continuing. Mrs. Robinson
called Governor Hunt when
she learned he was moving
his office back into the
Capitol and promised him a
flag and desk for his office
from the State Society, with
the stipulation that it always
remain there. The flag has
been given and the Society
has given $6000 for the
purchase of the desk.

Top College Grad
Has Local Ties
Mary Bryan Cheek of
Kinston was valedictorian in
the graduation exercises at
St. Mary's College in
Raleigh on May 14.
She is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Cheek of
Kinston and the granddaughter
of Mr. and Mrs.
William Boyce of Warrenton.
Program On Faith
Is Given Class
The V. L. Pendleton
Philathea Class of the
Warrenton Baptist Church
met in the home of Mrs.
Thomas Frazier on Tuesday
evening, May 10, at 8 p. m.,
with Mrs. M. P. Powell as
Joint hostess.
Mrs. Hugh White, president,
presided. The devotional
was given by Miss
Virgie Duke.
The secretary, Mrs. Clyde
Whitford, reported that
seven members had 100
percent attendance at Sunday
School in April.
"Faith" was the topic of
the program presented by
Mrs. L. 0. Robertson. The
class accompanied by
Miss Elizabeth Rooker at
the piano, sang "My Faith
Looks Up to Thee."
Mrs. E. R. Wood closed
the meeting with prayer.
During the fellowship
period, the hostesses served
a sweet course with cheese
straws and nuts to the 17
members present.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry M. Myrick announce the
engagement of her daughter, Winniefred Kay Thompson,
to Larry Monroe Finch, son of Mr. and Mrs. James
Monroe Finch of South Hill, Va. The wedding is planned
for July 10. She is the daughter of the late William A.
Thompson.
Mrs. Butler is Hostess For
UDC Chapter Meeting
Mrs. R. B. Butler was
hostess to the Warren
County Chapter, U.D.C. on
Friday afternoon at the
Depot in Warrenton. A
sweet course was served on
arrival to those present.
Mrs. Thomas Ellington,
president, presided and
Mrs. Roger Norwood gave
the historical program on
"Grassroot HistoriansDiaries
from the Confederacy."
During the business session
it was decided to invite
the district director, Mrs. L.
F. Royall, Jr., of Smithfield
to be the guest speaker at
the June meeting.

NOTE: Through the Inter-Library Loan with State
College we have obtained in the past three months 57
books for students and five for adult patrons. We have
had 10 reels of film checked out, through our film
contact, and on our own had an informative tour of the
Library for Mariam Boyd students of a Special
Education class. Also held a tourfora group of teacher
aides taking a course at Vance Teclinical Institute.

Junior Day in Warrenton on
Saturday, May 14. The
meeting for the Junior
Woman's Clubs of Henderson,
Oxford, Roanoke Rapids,
Warrenton and Norlina
was hosted by the Warrenton
Junior Woman's Club
and held at Emmanuel
Episcopal Church.
