charges took precedence
over the usual traffic
violations during a short
session of Warren County
District Court on Friday
Judge Claude W. Allen of
Oxford presided over the
session. Eleven of the
scheduled 27 cases were
continued. Cases disposed of

WINS VETERINARY AWARD-Gwen McCormick,
right, of Norlina, a June graduate of the University of
Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, received an
award for humane treatment of animals. McCormick
and Pravla Benitz, of Virginia Beach, Va., received the
John Morton Award for Humane Animal Care, which is
given to senior students majoring in large and small
animal care who have demonstrated the most concern
for the humane treatment of animals in the hospital. The
award was begun by Dr. John Morton, former head of the
department of medicine and surgery in the veterinary
medicine college.
Robertson Is Named
To Head Bond Drive
Roy P. Robertson, assist
ant vice president of Branch
Banking & Trust Company
in Warrenton, has accepted
appointment by the Depart
ment of the Treasury as
volunteer Warren County
chairman of the U. S.
Savings Bonds Program.
Announcement of his ap
pointment was made this
week by Bland W. Worley,
volunteer state chairman of
the U. S. Savings Bonds
Program.
As Warren County chair
man Robertson will work
with other community lead
ers in a year-round program
to encourage the increased
purchase of Savings Bonds
at banks and on the payroll
savings plan.
Robertson succeeds P. B.
Boyd, former president of
the Citizens Bank, who
served as Volunteer County
Chairman from 1946 until
his retirement this year. For
his more than 30 years
volunteer service, Boyd was
recently awarded a Trea
sury Shield Plaque, present
ed by State Chairman
Worley.
