William Daniel Bartholomew, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kred I.eroy Bartholomew of Warrenton. The wedding is planned for September 11 at 3 p. m. at the Warrenton Baptist Church. Mrs Gordon Poindexter of Waynesboro, Va., are -pending some time at the Seaman home here. Mr and Mrs. Walter Hurst were the Sunday guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred M. Hurst. Stephc" Smith, Youth Director of the Warrenton Baptist Church, took 20 young people to Brevard last weekend for a weekend of mountain climbing, swimming and fellowship. They were the guests of the First Baptist Church of Brevard and participated with them in a creative worship service on the mountainside. Accompanied by Mr. Smith, the Baptist Youth Group visited the residents of Warren Pla<.« Rest Home on Sunday night. They returned to the church for a scavenger hunt and banana splits. Timothy and Bryant Duke of Ithaca, N. Y., flew to Washington's National Airport last Friday where they were greeted by their grandmother, Mariam Coleman. They will be visiting their grandmother and Miss Emmy Lou Coleman. Their father. Dr. W. B. Duke, will join them on Sunday. Mr and Mrs. Ronnie Hight of Boynton Beach, Fla., recently visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Hight and Mrs. 0. H. Yancey, before returning to Florida for a move to Olympia, Washington where he has been transferred. Steve Smith, youth director at the church, said the trip by bike to Kimball's Point on Kerr Lake will begin at 7 a. m. on July 22. The group will camp overnight at the lake and peddle back to Warrenton on July 23. Smith said the age group involved would be grades seven through twelve. Four adults from the church will assist the riders. The bike challenge is designed to challenge the participant in all areas of life. Reception Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pullen were honored at a surprise wedding reception July 4 at the home of his niece, Mrs. Douglas Johnson. The reception was hosted by his sisters, nephews and nieces. Mrs. Pullen is the former Mrs. Laura M. Davis, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Alston of Areola. Mr. Pullen is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Kemp Pullen of Littleton. Approximately 100 members of their families and friends were entertained with a dinner and wedding cake. The Rev. Mr. Gabriel asked the blessing before the meal. Bryson Appointed A. H. Bryson of Bryson Chevrolet, Inc., in Warrenton will serve as 1977-78 Warren County Area Chairman for the North Carolina Automobile Dealers Association. Announcement of his appointment was made today by NCADA President Richard B. Parker of Morehead City. During his term, he will act as liaison between new car and truck dealers in this area and the state and national dealer associations. Luncheon On Wednesday Mrs. James Wood of Petersburg, Va., entertained at a luncheon for her mother, Mrs. Oscar Spivey of Seaburg, Fla. Her additional guests were her cousins, Mrs. M. W. Alston, Mrs. E. L. Dillard of Inez and Mrs. Arthur Petar of Warrenton. On Dean's List Katheryn Leola Cheek made the dean's list for the spring semester at Durham College in Durham. Majoring in business education, Kathryn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Haywood Cheek of Rt. 1, Warrenton. Apples contain minerals and vitamins. Miss King Marries Mr. Greer Miss Carolyn Lynn King and L. Clint Greer were united in marriage Sunday, July 10, at three o'clock in the afternoon at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Areola. The Rev. John W. Bowman officiated at the double-ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Lou King of Areola, and the groom is the son of Mrs. Patsy Hicks McCoy of Warrenton, and Charles Greer of Peach Bottom, Pa. Charlie Currin of Middleburg rendered a program of nuptial music. Miss Pat Brantley of Norlina, soloist, sang "If" and "The Lord's Prayer." The bride given in marriage by her fahter, wore a formal length gown of polyester chiffon, with bodice of alencon lace. Her full length veil of bridal illusion was attached to a bandeau cap. She carried a Colonial bouquet of white roses, yellow sweetheart roses and stephanotis. Miss Mary Bunch of Warrenton was maid of honor Other attendants were Miss Laura Burrows of Warrenton, Miss Beverly White of Norlina and Miss Brigitte Fleming of Areola. The bridesmaids were attired in floor length dresses of yellow polyester chiffon with floral circular scarves over their shoulders. They carried a nosegay of yellow sweetheart roses, miniature carnations and white pom pons. They wore head pieces of yellow roses, miniature carnations and gypsophelia. Allison Manning, niece of the bride, was flower girl. Her floor length dress was of yellow and white dotted swiss. Her headpiece was identical to the attendants. Steve Oliver of Rising Sun, Md., was best man. Groomsmen were Sherill Greer, uncle of the groom, Joey Greer, cousin of the groom and A1 Williams, III, all of Warrenton. Mrs. Glynn Manning, sister of the bride, was mistress of ceremonies. After the ceremony the wedding party and their parents formed a receiving line on the lawn of the church to greet the guests. Reception A reception was given by the parents of the bride at the Areola Community Club House. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Arrington greeted the guests. Ms. Bonnie Gupton presided at the guest register. Mrs. Louise Gupton invited the guests to the refreshment table. Mrs. Lee King, Mrs. Clarence Davis, aunts of the bride, Mrs. Earl King, aunt of the groom and Mrs. Johnny Hugh Davis served the punch and cake. Traditional summer refreshments were served to the guests. The colors of yellow and white were carried out in the color scheme. The bride was a June graduate of Warren Academy. The groom graduated from Rising Sun High School and Meredith Manor of West Virginia. Following a wedding trip to Kentucky the couple will reside in Peach Bottom, Pa. Rehearsal Party Following the rehearsal on Saturday evening, July 9, Mrs. Patsy McCoy, mother of the groom, entertained friends and the wedding party in her home. The refreshment table was ««vered with a lace cloth. r» Conventions Arrangements have been completed for a series of 108 conventions of Jehovah's Witnesses this summer. Marion M. Clark, presiding overseer for the local congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses said nearly 1,000,000 persons are expected to attend one of the conventions. Two of the assemblies are being h' d at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Va., July 21-24 and July 28-31. Guest Speaker Alvin Reid, Jr., of Raleigh will be guest speaker at Reedy Creek Baptist Church on July 14 at 11 a. m. The public is cordially invited. MRS. L. CLINT GREER pink and white arrangement centered the table flanked by six branch candelabras. The guests enjoyed punch, cake, mints, nuts, sausage balls and cheese straws. Tea Mrs. Louise Gupton and Mrs. Bob Arrington hosted a tea in the honor of bride-elect Carolyn King and Clint Greer on Sunday, June 19, in the home of Mrs. Gupton at Areola. Summer arrangements of pink and white with pink candles were used at points in the home. The couple received guests in the living room and refreshments were served in the dining room. The table was covered with an antique lace cloth. Mrs. Billy L. King, mother of the bride, poured punch. Cake squares, nuts, mints, cheese straws and punch were enjoyed by approximately 50 guests. Shower The Areola Community Club House was the scene of a miscellaneous shower for Miss Carolyn King on Thursday, June 30. Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. Carl Fleming, Mrs. George Hunter, Mrs. Elmer W. Harris, Mrs. Clarence Skillman, Mrs. Harvey King, Mrs. Loraine Porter and Mrs. William Callahan. The bride received many lovely gifts. Refreshments of punch, cake squares, mints and nuts were enjoyed by the guests. -Parenthood Meet To Be Held July 26 A "Prepare For Parenthood" meeting will be presented by Warren County Health Department Staff next Tuesday, July 26, at 7:30 p. m. at the old Haliwa Indian School near Areola. The program will include a film ai.d presentations designed to give basic imformation about planning for childbirth and mother and child care. Women in the child-bearing ages as well any other interested people in the area are urged to attend. The "Prepare For Parenthood" program grew out of the observation by nurses at the Health Department that patients in the Thursday maternity clinic could greatly benefit from training in good health practices for pregnancy and early child care. Public Health nurse, Mrs. Marina Earp, one of the originators of the program, says, "We hope that through this program we can begin to have more impact on how mother's care for themselves and their children." This program is part of the health department's community health education program. "Community health education — because you are our most important health resource!" Reunion Planned All relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the second annual Burrell Thornton family reunion to be held Saturday, July 30. The family pot-luck dinner will begin at 11 a. m. at Soul City and the Thornton family members will be staying at L>ay's Inn in Henderson from July 29 through Sunday, July 31. News From Warren Plaza Is Released By CHUCK 8IMMONS Hello from Warren Plaza again. Everyone here is fine and well. Except for the hot weather things are great. Last Saturday many of the residents enjoyed a trip to Pleasant Hill Rest Home in Roanoke Rapids where they visited friends and later went on a trip by bus to Lake Gaston for a day in the sun and a picnic. On the way to Roanoke Rapids we stopped in Macon and a big thanks to Jtlr. Haithcock for giving all the residents some ice cream. They really enjoyed it. With the fresh vegetables coming from the garden, the residents are really enjoying the summer. Many of the residents joined together Thursday afternoon and helped shell some butterbeans. A contest to see who could shell the most was held with Mrs. Fanny Kaczmarck winning first place. Madris Whitaker won second place. • On Saturday, July 16, the residents loaded the activity bus again for a day at Satterwhite Point at Kerr Lake. On Sunday, July 17, the Rev. Steve Smith of the Warrenton Baptist Church came out with a youth group from the church to visit with the residents. For all of our friends who haven't been by in a while, we hope to see you, soon.
