Teenagers Held In Warren Jail
Three white teenage boys
from Gasburg, Va., were
being held in Warren County
Jail yesterday morning
under (10,000 bond each on
Charged
William Solomon Alston
was charged with failure to
see safe movement on
Monday by the Warrenton
Police Department after his
vehicle collided with the
. front end of a vehicle owned
, by Lowell Ellis Harris while
attempting to park near The
Carriage House.
Alston's vehicle suffered
about $400 in damages while
the Harris vehicle had about
$100 in damages.
charges of felonious larceny
and breaking into the
Wesley Brewer Store across
the Warren County line in
Virginia.
The three boys, Eddie
Rudy Whittle, 18, of Gasburg,
Mark Anthony Haslip,
17, of Route 2, Gasburg,
Va., and Jimmie Smith
Davis, 18, of Gasburg, Va.,
were arrested in Warren
County at 2 a. m. Wednesday
by Deputy Sheriff Theo
Williams.
Sheriff Clarence Davis
said Wednesday morning
that the prisoners were
scheduled to be turned over
to Virginia authorities during
the day.

Football Practice To Get Under Way

Academy will start on
August 8 at 6:30 p. m. All
interested candidates are
asked to report to the
athletic field on this date.

Win Tournament
Little Sticks, a mens'
slow-pitch softball team in
Warren County, won the
mens' softball tournament
sponsored by South Hill's
V.F.W. Post over the
weekend. Some 16 teams
competed during the tournament.
Coaching Clinic
Coaches Bill Frazier, Ben
Howard and James Howell
of John Graham High School
are attending coaching
clinics in Greensboro this
week. While in Greensboro
the Yellow Jacket coaches
will see the East-West
All-Star basketball and
football games.
Win Tournament
The Pamperettes of Henderson
won the ladies
invitational slow-pitch softball
tournament held at the
old Wise School on Sunday.
Henderson Bulldogs captured
the mens' title with a
win over Franklinton on
Saturday.
Runners-up in the ladies
division were the Stickettes
of Norlina, coached by Mrs.
William Leonard. Other
participants of the tourney
included Pumas, Fast Fare
and Dabney.
Other teams from Warren
County participating in the
men's tournament were
Pumas, Haithcock Brothers,
Car Wash and Oine.

Thursday night, with the
winner of the series playing
E & E Equipment for the
championship next week.

Four Of Five Fire Calls Are Woods Fires
Four out of the five fire
calls answered by the
Warrenton Rural Fire Company
during this past week
were in response to trash or
wood fires, two being to the
same site. The fifth call was
to an unoccupied house in
Roanoke Township two
miles beyond Eaton Ferry
Bridge. The house was
owned by L. M. Rainey of
Warren County.
The Warrenton Rural firemen
responded to a call at 9
p. m. Wednesday and
assisted fire companies
from Macon, Littleton and
Ebony, Va., in an unsuccessful
effort to extinguish the
fire. In addition to the loss of
the house, fire also burned
over about an acre of woods.
Origin of the fire is
unknown.

Elizabeth Betty Perry on
Long Road at 5:15 p. m. on
Wednesday of last week, one
and one-fourth acres of
woods were burned over.
The fire originated from
burning trash.
The local company dispatched
seven men, two
trucks and a crash wagon to
a woods fire near Vaughan
at 4:35 a. m. Friday. Seven
acres of woods, the property
of Hunter-Waldorf Paper
Company, were burned
over. The firemen were
assisted by a plow from the
N. C. Forestry Service.
Lightning is blamed for the
conflagration.
The Warrenton Rural
Company dispatched three
trucks and a crash truck and
14 men to a' woods fire below
Inez at 8:15 p. m. Monday
night. Between three and
four acres of woods, the
property of Roger Alston
Peoples of Route 3, Warrenton,
were burned over.
The Warrenton firemen
were called back to the
scene on Tuesday around 5
p. m., when some of the fire
fanned up. Two crash trucks
were sent from Warrenton.
